Weekly Splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge: Battle of the Forgotten Cards!

Hello everyone. Today I will share a few battles in which I used some older cards.

In first battle I fought against a summoner who can use fire and death cards. I used an Untamed summoner Mimosa Nightshade. In my opinion this is still one of the best summoners in the game. But her abilities did not matter in this battle because summoners were silenced in this battle. My monster lineup also had some old cards: HYDRA(BETA), CHAIN GOLEM(PROMO), Corrupted Pegasus(ESSENCE ORB), Phantom Soldier(REWARD), Ancient Lich(REWARD) and Cthulhu(DICE). I had multiple strategies in this battle. First of all I picked a tank with healing and added a medic in order to keep my tank alive at all costs. In case my opponent would use magic I used monster with Silence ability- Phantom Soldier. I hid Ancient Lich in the middle of my team so it could gain more health with Life Leech ability. And should everything fail I also had monster with LAST STAND ability- I thought that my team will do plenty of damage and then Cthulhu will go on steroids and finish my enemy off. My first strategy failed my HYDRA died despite my best efforts to keep it alive. But after that my team worked like a well oiled machine and destroyed all remaining enemy monsters. HYDRA is one of my favorite old cards. I think that it is the one of the best melee cards in the game. It can be a great tank or last monster on the lineup. It has HEAL, THORNS, RETALIATE and TRAMPLE- that makes HYDRA the ultimate tank. I don't think that it has any real weakness. Even it's mana cost is low considering how good it is. I think the only way HYDRA could be better is if it would have magic attack and not melee attack.

In second battle I faced a dragon team with my water team led by summoner Kelya Frendul(CHAOS LEGION). I also used SEA MONSTER(REWARD), Flying Squid(CHAOS LEGION), Deeplurker(CHAOS LEGION), Captain's Ghost(REWARD), Medusa(ALPHA) and Venari Wavesmith(REWARD). I used mostly fast monsters and used a summoner who gave them even more speed. My summoner also gave my team some armor and I increased it even more with Venari Wavesmith. I did this because in this battle magic was weak and could not bypass armor. I took a big gamble and used three mages. My gambit paid of- my enemy had some armor but my team soon removed it. After that this battle was easy my opponent no longer stood a chance. I love medusa because it has stun and as an alpha card it earns bigger rewards. It also has great magic attack power. One weakness about Medusa is that it doesn't have great health. Also Medusa is a mage so in battles with weak magic it's attacks can be stopped by enemy armor. And it doesn't have any armor of her own so in battles with Weak magic it could be vulnerable. But this time I was able to protect medusa with additional armor and cover her weakness.

In third battle I used only three monsters. I picked Immortalis(CHAOS LEGION) as my leader and added HYDRA(BETA), Brownie(REWARD) and Kron the Undying(UNTAMED). My strategies were quite simple. I believed that either my HYDRA and KRON combo will prevail or in worst case scenario KRON will be the last monster remaining on my team and will become super KRON with last stand ability. Also I used summoner who weakens enemy magic attack with Void ability. I lost two of my monsters but that made KRON even more powerful and it defeated remaining enemies. In this battle I decided to highlight KRON. He has healing, divine shield and LAST STAND. It cost a lot of mana and is slow monster. But it is very powerful mage and doesn't have any other weakness. Healing, strong magic and LAST STAND means that killing this monster is really hard.

In last battle I once again played with death team led by Mimosa Nightshade(UNTAMED). I also used Venari Marksrat(SOULBOUND), HYDRA(BETA), Ancient Lich(REWARD), Phantom Soldier(REWARD). For me the highlight of this team was Mimosa Nightshade. This summoner is awesome. It gives my team Void ability, removes healing abilities from my enemies and weakens enemy ranged attacks. For summoner this card cost a lot of mana. But I believe that her abilities are well worth the high price. Also this summoner can be used in combination with Phantom Soldier in order to reduce enemy magic attack even more. In this battle I removed enemy healing abilities. After that I used a sacrifice Rat strategy to make my HYDRA stronger. I also hoped that my Ancient Lich will gain more health. Mimosa Nightshade was the MVP of this battle because she removed healing ability from strongest enemy monster.

I hope that this post proved that some old cards are still very powerful and worth using in wild format.

Old but gold. These classic cards are still holding their own. Hyda is an absolute beast, it just refuses to go down. Also, Mimosa Nightshade might be underrated. Great breakdown of the battles man
