Painted Stories of Our Cultures, Customes, And Traditions That Speaks Life
Good day to all! I want to share with you a photography of the paintings about our cultures I took in the morning walking down along the school while waiting for jeepney to hop in. I know we have different cultures and every culture is unique that shows who we are and how this culture makes us united, accepted, and respects each culture.
I got this mural paintings which were painted in school premises. It shows our way of living; what our customes are, in different municipalities in Benguet. It's the culture we practiced that until today's generation still exists. So, let's get started.
This picture shows the festival in one of the municipality in Benguet which is La Trinidad. They celebrate Strawberry Festival. It's celebrated during March and runs until 29th day of the month. The Panagbenga Festival also is celebrated in Baguio City, still part of Benguet. So, if you want to witnessed these two festivals, visit Benguet and I assure you you'll enjoy the diverse culture that we have. 😄
Going on, this shows the traditional culture of us. How a man court a woman through dancing.
The *shield *and the bolo, they used it before for hunting and for protection from enemy. It sound bit weird but that's how it was before. And you can see the *Nipa *house, it's where our ancestors live - simple but meaningful and peaceful.
Below is the thirteen municipalities of Benguet. Some have different traditional customes especially when they have similar language, like *Ibaloi, Kalanguya, Kan-kanaey and Karao *(but this is unique language, a community that only speak Karao).
Below also, depicts other traditions, like Cañao (animal offering for bountiful harvest or thanksgiving, and for death rituals), gongs that used in rituals and dances' ; way of living celebrating victory, unity, and hospitality. Mostly, they earn living by planting rice crops and vegetables. It's deeply rooted in our ancestors and still until today but the difference is that, we use technology in planting and harvesting. The traditional occasions too still celebrated. This shows togetherness of the people who have same beliefs, and values. Still the spirit of Bayanihan or in our language Binadang(community-spirit), and more than this, showing hospitality. Likewise, cultures makes us connected with each other - it shows we belong to this community and this will always stay in our histories and to past down to another generations coming.
To end this blog, I'll show you this abandoned old building ,it's near in the school. I remember when I was in highschool, we go to the top of it. I don't know the story behind this building but I will try to ask information about it. On the other hand, as you can see, a lot of writings written and it looks creepy. I tried to zoom in out but my camera wasn't good enough to make it clearer.
And I tried different black and white of some of the mural paintings, it looks like chaircoal painting. I'm just amazed how it turned out.
****GLASS SPHERE***
So, that's all for today. I hope you like it. Have a great day.
*Note: Pictures are taken in my cellphone Realme C53 and the first picture, I edited it in Canva. *
