Wow it's been a while i last wrote here, where and how did the time fly so fast? I'm so glad i finally made it back here like i never left 😊.

The saying that health is wealth is one of the wisest and most important statement I ever heard while growing up, one whose authenticity cannot be compromised.
Good health is a gift that if you have ever been critically ill, you would pay any price to have.

The fact that staying healthy as individuals is largely dependent on our habits, lifestyle and choices clearly shows that we have huge roles to play to stay healthy and enjoy good health. Aside the fact that there are certain congenital anomalies or conditions that certain individuals are born with which is usually no fault of theirs but as a result of the conditions and factors surrounding their births, most diseases and health challenges faced or experienced by people are to a large extent caused by them.

I know we can never be too careful as certain things may be beyond our control as humans but we can still try to ensure that we prioritize our health always because we definitely need sound health to enjoy the good things of life.
Some of the little lifestyle adjustments or modifications that may seem insignificant on the surface but when employed can help us stay healthy includes:

Constant Hydration :
I hear people make statement like "water is life" and I agree with them 100% that water is indeed life. The body needs water constantly for it to function optimally. Virtually all metabolic functions in the body is facilitated by the presence of water. Water is needed for digestion and absorption of food and nutrients. Water is needed for circulation of blood and other nutrients to various sites in the body where they are required. Water is needed for energy production in the body powerhouse. Water also helps in detoxification of the liver to help eliminate unwanted toxins and wastes out of the body. Infact about 70% of the normal body weight is made up of water. This tells us how important water is to the body.

Staying hydrated by constantly drinking enough of water might just be that change one may decide to adopt that would improve their health. I used to barely drink water previously because i usually do not feel thirsty but in recent times since i got to understand the health benefits of water, i now ensure that i drink lots of water daily. I even went as far as setting reminders on my phone to help remind me that i need to drink water at certain times of the day. I ensure that i always go out with a water bottle so that i don't forget that I need to drink water. Since i started doing this i have seen substantial improvement in my health. If you're like me that barely drink water in a day, you could try doing this as i believe this could also help you.

Having adequate rest and sleep :
The importance of having sufficient rest and sleep cannot be over emphasized. I see a lot of sleep-deprived people walking on the streets everyday going about their normal routine on a daily basis and my heart goes out to them. I know we live in a fast-paced world where every minute and second counts but in the midst of all that we should always create time where we shut down and rest, have good quality sleep and our bodies will thank us for that.

We should all get to a point in our lives where we should not feel guilty about having 7 - 9 hours quality sleep. I know there are always deadlines to meet, projects to complete, tasks to perform and all of that but giving our body the rest it deserves is of utmost necessity. Constant sleep deprivation causes an increase in cortisol level which increases our stress level and further causes certain medical issues such as High blood pressure (Hypertension), Fatigue, Lack of attention, Eating Disorders, Stroke etc.

Eating Healthy :
The food we eat can either make or mar us. Eating healthy meals that is rich in all the essential nutrients required by the body is a major necessity. Constant eating of junks and processed foods leads to certain disease conditions such as increased cholesterol level (dyslipidemia), Elevated blood sugar (Hyperglycemia) which ultimately leads to Diabetes, Obesity etc.

I clearly understand that we barely have time for ourselves nowadays as there is always a job that we need to get done with and move unto the next item on our list, and we just want to grab a bite of whatever is available just to fill our stomach and continue our job, but we shouldn't make it a habitual action as the compounding effect in the long run would be disastrous to our health.

Regular Health Checks :
As a health professional everyday i see people coming into our health facility without having a clue of their health status. I always have and will always be an advocate of constant and routine general body check.

Please ensure you always check your weight, your blood pressure, your blood sugar level, atleast these three basic parameters should be frequently checked. Then quarterly you can do a full body check up to know the state of your internal organs just to be sure that your health is on track.

The importance of this routine checks is enormous, like people would often say, "identifying a problem is the first step to solving that problem". When you check your health status constantly you can be able to effectively prevent certain health conditions but when you don't , things can be going wrong internally and you wouldn't know until one day your body finally crashes.

Like a popular medical parlance that says "Early detection saves life", always avail yourself to get tested on a regular basis inorder to avert unforseen health challenges.

So Hiveans these are a few tips i would like to share with us that if employed can improve our health and life in general. I would like to read and learn from others on what physical tips that would help us live healthy.
