Making Good Habits Stick

Let’s be honest most of us know what we should be doing. Exercise more, eat better, save money, read, study… the list goes on. Knowledge is not the problem, The real problem is that when compared to other habits that gives us quick satisfaction, the habit that we are trying to adopt feels boring or very hard to do. The easy pleasures tempts us everyday. This is the main reason why you find it hard to lace up your shoe and go for run but very easy to scroll through social media all through the day.

One trick that i have learnt that helps me to actually build a strong and better habit is actually bundling that thing i like most with a habit that i am trying to take up. For example whenever i want to clean the house or read, i actually take breaks to listen to my favorite TV show or podcast, or maybe eating my favorite fruits after completing a task

with time , this will no longer feel like a chore or something that you try hard to do , but actually something that i actually want to show up.

You might not also want to underestimate how powerful small rewards are. You can create a checkbox or calendar that you tick ,track your streak, or even celebrating a little milestone, this can give that feeling that you are actually making progress. This feeling alone has what it takes to keep you going and motivated even when things are not going your way.

Why does this work, this is because at the end of the day, the habit that will work are the ones that gave a good feeling to your brain that it is worth repeating. You wont have to force yourself to repeat the habit if it was originally designed with joy built in it

Many of us know what exactly we ought to be doing but we fail to, we actually need to exercise more to stay healthy but we fail to.
