Resilience Beyond the Screen: Practical Skills for a Digital-Free World
In an increasingly digital world, where the internet has become integral to our daily lives, it’s easy to overlook the value of practical skills that exist entirely outside the online realm. These hands-on abilities not only provide a sense of accomplishment but also serve as a safety net in times of uncertainty. Imagine a scenario where the internet disappears overnight. What skills would you rely on to sustain yourself and even generate income? Whether it’s woodworking, sewing, gardening, or a trade like plumbing or electrical work, these skills hold timeless value. In this article, I will share with you the practical skills I possess, and these are skills I know would save me if the internet disappeared today.
Many people think having skills and being a graduate is a waste; some say there is no reason for going to school when you have already learned a skill, but this kind of mentality is only meant for people who don't want to grow.
I’m a graduate of a reputable school in Nigeria. I have online skills and offline skills. I started learning skills on my own immediately after I resumed my studies at the university. First, I learned to bake. I am a lover of flour, so I decided to learn and bake for myself anytime I crave it. Some people know me here as a foodie, so I honed my cooking and baking skills. As time went on, my friend started pushing me to work for people, which I never did. I had class and a reputation to keep. I was also the class representative. Thinking back now, that was a stupid decision that I made. Without the internet, I can start baking and taking in new students, who will pay a registration fee. This way, I can remain relevant and make more money.
Anything you are good at is a skill. Be it communication, time management, hospitality, speech, and so on, they are all skills. One now has to sit down and think, "Which of these skills can survive outside the space of the internet? It is this skill we are going to talk about today. Another skill I possess that can survive without the internet is my skill in handling poultry and farming.
Yeah, it's easy to go to school to learn about poultry, but if you don't have the skill of handling the skill, time management, then the farm will be a failure. I have done this before, and it was a success, so if there isn't any internet, my communication skills, time management skills, and ethical skills will help me in the business I am building.
I have come to understand that hard technical skills can help a person get a job, but the soft skills, which are mostly behavioral skills, will help the person remain on the job, the same as in business. My soft skills will come in handy, and these are skills I don't need a mobile subscription to get working.
With these skills, I can still build an empire without the internet. Thanks for reading. My name is Fashtioluwa.

I think any skills can be adapted to the offline world, we just need to re-create ourselves. As a business person of sure you will have plenty of opportunities, well maybe you will take time to be known since it is easy to spread a business through an online way =p
Yeah, any skill can but how we brand it and use it and being open-minded also matter a lot. Only that way can we make better use of those online skills offline.
