Activities I have done in a Long Time: The Drummer Boy.

Growing up as a young child, I never learned to play the drums; I just listened to people playing them and then reproduced what I heard. Sometimes, I made mistakes, but with practice, I got it, and I did that in no time. As time went on, I started playing for churches, programs, schools, and any place I saw the drums. I started loving to play the drums, and I got so good at it.

Playing the drums is an activity I love to do. I play not just for churches; I play everywhere I go and where I can find drums. When I was in school, I played for my fellowship. Back then, the school fellowship, there was no one to play for the fellowship and I did that for 4 years

The reason I haven’t played the drums in a long time is that during my compulsory national service (NYSC) for a year, I didn’t have the opportunity to do so. There were many things I needed to focus on as I began planning my life. Additionally, the place I attended worship had a drummer who was much better than I was, which also contributed to my decision not to play.

I love how he plays; he was so good I could only watch from afar. One thing I know from experience is that, when there is a serious program, only the best of the best are allowed to drum and I wasn't the best. I wasn't angry about this; it only gave me the zeal to want to learn more, but with everything else going around me, with work, I had to make a difficult decision. I opted for singing instead of drumming because I never got the opportunity to play the drums.

After singing for a year, leading songs, and being the center of attention, the love I had for drumming started moving into singing. There was a time I played the drums and sang and it was nice but I love singing more now.

Would I love to go back to drumming?

Playing the drums has always been part of me and I don't think its an activity that can be taken away from me. If I saw the drum set today, I would play it. The last time I played the drum to my heart's content was in 2021 and I miss it so much, I won't lie. Maybe one day I would get the chance to be the drummer boy I have always been.

Sometimes life takes us on different paths, but our passions remain. I'm sure you'll get back to drumming someday, and it's amazing that singing has become a new love for you too...drumming & singing, it still goes.

Thanks for sharing.

Do you sometimes wish you beat the drum for money.?

Nope, I haven't thought of that before. I do it because I like to and its fun. Money is not an issue for me.
