THERE SHOULD BE RESTRICTION OF PHONE USAGE IN SCHOOLS.
Source
Generally, since the advent of phones, there has been a transformation in the area of telecommunication. It has caused a great positive impact in the lives of people and even in some sectors, such as school and many others; however, whatever that is good has its own other side effect. In this post, I would share the advantages and disadvantages of using phones in school.
Advantages
I kept wondering if not because of globalization and technological advancement, where would we have been? Looking at the high increase in petrol and other consumables?. Phones have really reduced costs in so many aspects. It takes me a reasonable amount of money to check on my parents, but now I could just send them an SMS or a simple call via my handset to keep me abreast of them. Some of the advantages of handsets in schools are;
- Handsets or phones are semi-laptops or computer systems. As it is normally said, all fingers aren't equal, so also it is not everyone who could afford a laptop. Recently I categorically told my students that if they don't have money for a laptop, let them go for a good Android phone. With this phone a lot can be done. It gives easy and speedy access to the internet. My wife shared with me that during her undergraduate studies, she made use of her phone to type her project work because she had no computer. This is an impressive way of using the phone. I could also testify about this when I was working on my project as well. I downloaded all my research materials via my phone, then later transferred them to my system before I proceeded with the next action. Therefore I would like to say that phones would help to boost the academic performance of students in class.
- Phones are a very good means of communication. I could remember having an online class with my students on WhatsApp. It was really educative because I engaged most of them, and it was cheap to maintain because the WhatsApp platform does charge more compared to others. I used this medium to cover my syllabus for the semester. Using phones in the class would help the students to understand things better. Students that can't afford computers might leverage that, and the AI capacity would also help to aid their educational system.
Disadvantages
Whatever that has an advantage has its own disadvantages as well. Some of the disadvantages of phone usage in class are that it would be a serious distraction. There are certain students that aren't mature enough to start using phones; hence, if exposed, they might cause negative effects to their academic performance. In the course of using the phone, they may delve into unhealthy sites where they can easily be influenced, while some might be tempted to be navigating through unnecessary things. Allowing students to use phones in class would affect their performance in the area of absolute dependence on the phone rather than cracking their brains to do thorough research.
Should students be allowed to use phones in school?
As I said earlier, it might make things worse looking at the present moral decadence in our society. In an attempt to revive our dying academic standards, I would suggest that phones shouldn't be used in classes or tests.There should be balance; however, they should not be allowed to use phones for tests. Thanks.
I think students should never ever be allowed to use mobile phones or any other devices in the school/university. They will miss use it fs.
Ok you're right. Thanks for visiting
Students should be allowed to use cell phones, but no during tests. Things should be done in moderation.
I totally agree with you on this subject matter, phone although very useful will be misused and abuse by students and allowing it usage will cause more harm than good to their academics performance.
Thanks for stopping by
I agree with several of the points that mentions, the use of telephones is a very positive tool that must be regulated. I would not prohibit it, but I would establish a regulation for its use, perhaps a fines system for its misuse or excessive use. This is something that should be studied to avoid abuses and excesses.
Thanks for this beautiful input
