The balance between healthy and unhealthy competition
Greetings from this area this morning. It's been a chilly weather but thank God I am alive. I celebrate every participant and the entire management for their efforts in quality delivery like this. The theme for this edition has to do with competition. This can be both positive and negative depending on the side of the coin. Competition means different thing to different people. Competition can be good or bad pending on how you view it. Competition is when a person or people strive to achieve same thing. In order words it means to strive to attain a particular goal as a group or individual. It could be in the place of work, business area, sports, academics or personal growth.
We are living in the world of competition either directly or indirectly. We compete for one thing or other. What's healthy competition? This is the kind of competition that's driven by so many factors. Like innovation which makes youths or individuals which one would be propelled to soar higher or delve into deeper things. For instance, if not because of the varied innovation we have today, where would we have been? Things would have been in disarray. It's positive competition that creates the atmosphere for other people to explore their God's given potential for maximum productivity. The innovation space is widely open for everyone to navigate and bring input that would make life better for everyone.
Healthy competition can be a source of motivation. Some people don't take any active step at all in life but when being motivated, they could go extra miles to do the impossible. Even teachers in the school are stirred to do better when they are motivated by an incentive or anything. When motivation sets in, everyone tries to work assiduously to become the best for recognition. This is a healthy competition because it would yield to a positive thing.
Another key thing that defines a healthy competition is in the area of personal growth. When you see someone building capacity, you would like to also put in your best to be recognized and known with your kind of talent or gift. When you see someone doing better than you, you would be encouraged to soar higher.
On the other hand the unhealthy competition is that kind of competition that is not good. It is negative and has negative impacts. For instance when one mount pressure in order to win or achieve a task by force. This would bring rift and if not managed could lead to something dangerous. Unhealthy competition comes with anger, envy etc. When the motive of a competition is not to achieve a goal but to show how better you are with the other person and you could go extra miles to do anything human to ensure you bring the person down. Most of these kind of competition is characterized by envy, jealousy etc.
There is great need to balance between the two kinds of competition. Its possible to begin with healthy one if you aren't careful it will end an unhealthy way. The major line here is to always be on the watch and deliberately manage your heart.
Thanks for reading through my entry.
Unhealthy competition can mar you and bring imbalance to you as a person.
I Concord. Thanks for the input dear
Yeah. You are very correct. We need to engage only on healthy competition because it helps us do great things not because someone wants to win.
Unhealthy competition is not what we need to engage in because it can cost fighting even among the competitors.
Thanks for sharing
