SECRET OF GOOD LEADERSHIP
Glad to be here again, and thanks to the management for this opportunity to share my perspective on the topic for this engagement, which revolves around leadership. Leadership is not just a mere word but is a call unto service and sacrifice. Understanding it and aligning with its principles is key. Many of us have been exposed to different kinds of leadership styles, yet there is no iota of any transformation.
The 21st-century model of leadership is different compared to previous centuries. One of the outstanding factors about modern leadership entails a good mindset because of the technological advancement. As other sectors grow, it's important, too, for leadership to move concurrently with these developments.Before I proceed with other things, I would like to highlight three things that will distinguish a 21st-century leader considering the global changes that are happening.
One of the critical things is that a leader must be visionary. Vision is like the eye and spectacle of any leader. In other words, I would like to put it this way: any leader without vision is like a farmer that goes to farm without a hoe. The earlier we accept this, the better for us. When a leader gets the vision, either as an organization or personally, then you make it known to your followers in a clean slide. Your vision should include the objective, aim, goal, and many other things.The second thing is that a leader must be able to align people to the vision. This includes the ability to communicate the vision to them in a simple way where all of them would understand it.
In aligning them, you would also ensure that the follower owns or believes in the vision. If there's no clarity in the vision, the followers won't be able to align to the vision.The last issue I would address before proceeding with other things is achievement. If you follow the process, you would notice that the first one was vision, followed by alignment and then achievement. These are the fundamental things as a premise to create good ground for leadership. The challenge is that many leaders focus on achievement and forget the main ingredients of vision and alignment.
Leadership is not about titles but about influence and impact. Leadership entails harnessing the potential of others to achieve a desirable goal.Let me share a little experience thus far as a leader in the 21st century. I remembered when I was a youth leader in my local assembly. I came in as a servant, not a boss, because there was a crisis within the youth fellowship. Most of the members lost interest and started leaving; hence, the need to restructure the leadership system. That was what brought me on board. I was able to reconcile some disputes through cordial communication.
The numerical strength of the fellowship started growing as if I applied fertilizer. The mindset of the youth changed owing to the fact that the latest programs of events were introduced, such as sports, quizzes, hangouts, love feasts, and many other catching events. We even had people that came around not from our fellowship because of the visible transformation they saw.Leadership is all about influence, sacrifice, and impact, not just having a beautiful title.
