Implications of TikTok Sell on the American Internal Security and and Economy

Over a three weeks ago, the US President Donald Trump released an executive order for the sale of Chinese owned social media platform TikTok to a American company or individual. According to him, this sale will help the internal security of the American people and government.

Since the 9/11 incident, the American government have been careful when it comes to security her land from external aggression and one of the ways is can be compromised is through unmonitored platforms. Security breaches can be orchestrated from within this such platforms. For me the idea is super amazing and the Presidents move very helpful to curb internal and external security breaches.

The chair of the House Select Committee on China said Thursday that a licensing agreement for use of the TikTok algorithm, as part of a deal by China-based ByteDance to sell U.S. assets of the short video app, would raise "serious concerns."
Representative John Moolenaar, a Republican, is waiting for a briefing to get more details on the deal that White House officials said previously would include the new owners of TikTok's U.S. assets licensing the algorithm. "I think anytime you have (China) with leverage over the algorithm, I think that's a problem," Moolenaar said at an event at the Hudson Institute.

Trump's order said the algorithm will be retrained and monitored by the U.S. company's security partners, and operation of the algorithm will be under the control of the new joint venture.

This is contrary to the views of the Chair of the house select, which is changing the algorithm completely. Of a truth, knowing the algorithm of the short video social media platform should be key in the sale's deal. This is because, the programmer might understand how to monitor the platform even after being purchased by a US based company. Reprogramming becomes a key component in the the licensing deal or the US government should still expect compromised.

Finally, the internal and external security of every nation should be key. These days, social media platforms have become means of spreading informations of national importance to other parts of the world and protecting the nation from external security breaches is key to economic progress of the nation.
