Whom did I offend?........ Neoxianprompts #31.

I woke up to the sound of my alarm that fateful Monday morning. I was full of energy and ecstatic about the day. I prepared for work and did all I could to be punctual.

The first sign that the day would not follow my wishes happened with the commercial transport I entered. The mode of the vehicle could better be described as slow as a snail. A journey of twenty minutes took forty-five minutes.

I couldn't be more angry than I already was at the vehicle and the driver himself. I just alighted from the vehicle in peace and walked into my place of work quietly.

I plopped down on the seat in my office and used my hands to massage my temples. After doing that for some seconds, I switched on my computer to start the day's task but the amount of emails I saw left me with my mouth wide open.

”250 unread emails! Who is going to reply to all these now?”

I placed my palms under my chin as I began sorting out the emails one after the other in an order of priority with my other hand on the mouse.

I was lost in what I was doing when my phone's ringtone startled me. I quickly picked up the call without even looking at my phone screen to see the caller ID.

”Faith! How dare you? What did you do that for huh?”

The caller sounds like a male goat in heat. I removed the phone from my ear and finally glaneced at the phone to see who the caller was. ”Mtchewww, it is this nonsense guy again”.

The caller was Dele, a guy who has been chasing me but I have been turning him down. He had called severally this morning but I missed his calls because I didn't want to deal with his drama but who would have thought that the guy took it personal.

”Dele, what is wrong with you? What gave you the temerity to yell at me on the phone. You are disturbing my work so please hang up this call”, I retorted back at him.

While I was still talking, a fellow colleague brought stacks of files, dumped it on my table and said ”Mr Victor said that you should correct the errors in these files. He needs them by 5pm”.

I hurriedly hung up the phone on Dele, ignoring his rants and looked at the stack of files my colleague had dropped on the table.

”Chai, whom did I offend today? Mr Victor knows that this task he is giving me would need at least there days, yet he wants me to finish them in just a few hours. What do I do?”

I was muttering and whining but I still started on it. I was now multi-tasking. I replied emails and also made the corrections necessary in the files. I could not go for my lunch break because I was too engrossed in my work.

To crown it all, two colleagues started quarrelling and making so much noise that my head began to bang seriously. With all the chaos, I still managed to finish most of the files needing corrections and I submitted them to Mr Victor who did not look too pleased but who cares.

By the time I was through with work, the time was already 8pm. I was all alone in the office. Of not for the presence of the security men at the gate I would have been all alone.

I stretched my arms and feet, picked up my bag and headed home. When my neighbour saw me coming back so late, he asked but I simply shrugged and replied you won't believe me if I told you. Today was hectic, what an unbelievable day.
