Sonia's Glossophobia.
Sonia was a tall and beautiful lady, working in a public organization but she was always scared of public speaking.
She will never accept to go for any out field work because she doesn't know how to present the tasks given to her. She would rather remain in the office where she will not see crowd.
One day, an assignment was given to her to do. She was to go on field work and she was to do the talking as the team leader. She became scared on what to do.
“I've not gone to field work before, why will my boss do this to me knowing I have phobia for public speaking?” She said to herself.
Sonia went for the field work and she managed to do it, but it was not perfect. Sonia was queried by her boss for not presenting well on the field assignment given to her.
Her fear for public speaking became a problem for her in her work place. She was at the verge of losing her job, so she decided to visit a psychologist for help, to look for a solution for her.
“Sonia, tell me about your fear,” the psychologist asked with a gentle voice.
“It's like I'll be speaking in front of the crowd, and suddenly my mind will go blank,” Sonia explained, her hands shaking. I’ll stumble over words, and everyone will think I'm stupid,”
The psychologist looked at her understandingly. “That sounds incredible, but what if I told you that your fear is not of public speaking itself, but of what it represents.”
Sonia looked confused. “What do you mean?”
“You are scared of being judged, of being vulnerable,” The psychologist said. “But what if you learn to overlook the fear? To see it as an opportunity to connect with others, to share your ideas and perspectives?”
Sonia thought for a moment. “I never thought of it that way.”
The psychologist smiled, “Exactly. Our fears often hide deeper truths. By facing and understanding them, we can begin to overcome them.”
With the psychologist guidance, Sonia began to confront her fears, gradually becoming more confident in her ability to communicate with people and to face the crowd. She learnt to see her fear as encouragement for growth and self discovery.
Sonia was never scared again of accepting field work and going on assignment that involves the crowd. Her colleagues in the organization were surprised on how she has really changed, even her boss was surprised too but he was happy for her.
As their sessions came to a close, Sonia turned to the psychologist with tears in her eyes. “Thank you for helping me see that my fear wasn't the problem, it was the key to unlocking my true potentials.”
The Psychologist smiled, her eyes warm with empathy. “You're welcome, Sonia. Remember, your fears are not something to be ashamed of, but something you should understand and overcome.”
Sonia became a good public speaker because she decided to seek for help and not keep it to herself. She was grateful for the help the psychologist rendered.

I like how the therapist redirected the issue of her fears and showed her how to overcome that phobia.
Indeed, fear can be overcome and the first part is knowing that we are humans who can err no matter how perfectly we plan.
