Granny's memories....Neoxian Prompt #32
As I sit on my balcony, surrounded by the familiar comfort of my childhood. I am enveloped by the warmth of memories that refuses to fade. My grandma, a pillar of love, strength and wisdom left an indelible mark on my life. Her presence was a constant source of comfort and her words of wisdom kept resonating in my heart.
Even though she is no longer alive, the memories we shared are still fresh in my mind and remind me of the values instilled in me and make me see life the way it is.
The most fondest memories I will never forget is the kitchen techniques. My grandma was someone who loved to cook different kinds of delicacies. Anything she would want to cook, she will call me to come and learn so that I will become a good cook tomorrow.
I stayed with my grandma the most since my mom died when I was three years old. She has been the one taking care of me and doing the necessary things my mom was supposed to do.
In the kitchen, it was not about the food but the love, care and attention that my grandma put in preparing the food that raised my admiration. She would sit with me for hours, patiently teaching me the art of cooking and telling me stories while at it. Her stories were the ones that come with words of wisdom.
My grandma was always a neat person. She would always wash and keep her things tidy. She will not leave the kitchen unclean after cooking, she will make sure she tidied everything and keep everything neat. I think I learnt that from her, I don't like a dirty environment. She will always tell me to have a good and sweet home, you must keep it clean and away from uninvited guests.
I can remember the day we went to the park together, she held my hand and we strolled together. On getting to the park, I demanded ice cream and popcorn, but she hesitated to get it for me. After we settled down, she started telling me about life and how to go about it.
She told me a story of a girl that was staying in their neighborhood and how she used to be rude and unruly. She said that one ne day as she was going to school, she was attacked by some bad boys in the community and no one came to help her. Everyone stayed away from her because of her bad attitude.
After the incident, she learnt her lesson and started respecting people. So anything you do in life, make sure you put respect in it so that it will help you in whatever you are doing in life. I was happy going with her to the park that day. After the story, grandma then bought the ice cream and popcorn I requested for earlier.
My grandma was the kind of person that will teach me family relationship. She will always say “no matter what you do, don't forget family because they will be the ones that will help you tomorrow when everyone might have left you.” I cherished her words so much because is what I'm using now to live my life. I have come to realize now that I have grown, that relationship matters a lot in someone's life and having a healthy family relationship will help you overcome some challenges of life.
Even now, when I think back on those memories, I'm filled with sense of gratitude and love. My grandma may not physically be present with me, but her legacy lives on in my heart. She is the reason I value relationship and traditions and try to make a difference in the society. Her words of wisdom has been the guidelines have been using to live in a world of uncertainty.
My grandma mighy have been a simple person but her legacy will never be forgotten my me and the people she had touch their lives in one way or the other. As I reflect on the memories we shared, I'm reminded on the impact one has on another and I make sure to have a good impact on others has I live on.
