Fiction #231...…. Up again.
Sandra stood in an empty apartment looking lost in thoughts as she remembered her past life. She was living a life many envied in her community and within her circles of friends. Her designer’s bags, shoes, clothes and lots more, going on expensive vacations and driving luxurious cars, but all came crashing down when her father's company went bankrupt leaving her with nothing.
“How am I going to cope with this life of poverty?” She asked no one in particular. I have been living a life of luxury all my life and all of a sudden, they want me to live a simple life.
“What will I do to get out of this situation?” She asked her friend Caro who was standing next to her
“You don't have to kill yourself over these things, I know is not easy but with time, everything will be fine.” Caro replied.
“Where will I even start from, you should know I had everything I needed without stress and my parents also make sure I lack nothing but now that I can afford that kind of life, what will I do?" she started crying.
“Is okay my dear I'm here with you, we will scale through.” Her friend encouraged her.
While she was talking with Caro, her phone rang, she picked to see the caller's ID, It was one of her friends back in school.
“Hey, girl! what is up with you?” She asked with a cheerful voice.
“I'm managing,” she said trying to maintain her voice so her friend will notice her worries.
“Okay, we are going out this weekend to meet with the girls, do you mind coming along?” She asked.
“Sorry girl, I will not be able to come. I'm not ready to face the girls now.” She replied almost crying.
“Fine then still next time, take care of yourself and be good.” She hang up.
Sandra had not told many people about her family’s situation and the thought of facing her friends who still had thriving careers and loving families made her anxious. In the time before, I would have been the first to jump for the outing but now nothing is there for me, I will be laughed by my friends and I will not be able to face it.
“Sandra, why not sell this apartment since is the only asset that can get you back on your feet. You can used the money and start up a business.” Caro advised.
“Sell my apartment? No nah, this is the only thing my father gave me aside from the cars have been using which you know he sold all of them to meet up with his debt.”
“What is the need of keeping it, when you can just move in with your family in the family house.” Just consider my advice Caro continued.
“Thank you Caro. I will think about it,” she
said.
She looked at the vacant rooms, and memories flooded her mind. This had been her home, her sanctuary, she remembered laughter filled nights with her friends, family gatherings and quiet moments of solitude.
After a month of serious contemplating, Sandra decided to sell the apartment and used the money to start up a business. She called her lawyer and made the necessary paperwork that needed to be made for the sell of the house.
The house was sold, and she used the money to start up a business that helped her get back on her feet. Sandra was so happy that she never let the situation get the better part of her and she was grateful for her friend whose advise help her to where she is now.
Sandra realized that true wealth was not about what you owned, but who you were and what you were willing to fight for.
