Fiction#224....Change in attitude.

Nnoema and Ifeoma had been friends right from primary school up to their university days. They had the same birth date and they liked celebrating together every year.

By a stroke of luck, they got admission into the same university but in different departments. Nnoema studied Medicine and Surgery while Ifeoma studied Business Administration. They g never stayed apart from each other except when they had lectures.

They two friends stay in the same apartment, which was rented for them by their parents since they know they had been friends right from their primary days. People thought Nnoema and Ifeoma were sisters except for those that knew them from birth.

Both friends were serious with their studies for two years. After their second year in school, things changed for the two friends. They no longer did things together. They started going to school separately. People in school started noticing the changes in them and started asking questions but there was no tangible answer given to them drifting apart.

Stella, who also happened to be their friend, noticed the change in them and wondered what could possibly go wrong between the two. So she decided to call Nneoma and Ifeoma to find out what the problem was and to look for a possible way to solve their problem.

“Nneoma and Ifeoma, what happened? Why the sudden change in the two of you?”

“There is nothing wrong, we are fine.” Ifeoma replied with a smile.

“We are fine.” Nneoma added.

“I don't believe the two of you. If you say all is fine, then why are the two of you not close like before. You guys used to be close or is there something you guys are not telling me.” Stella asked.

“Aha! Stella, I said we are fine. It's just a little misunderstanding and we will resolve it on our own” Nneoma said, not looking at her face.

“It's okay, I will not pressure you guys again since none of you is willing to say what the problem is. When you guys are ready to talk, I am always available to listen.” Stella concluded.

One afternoon, when they came back from school, Nneoma decided to sort out the issue with her friend.

“Ifeoma, can we talk?” Nneoma asked.

“What do you want us to talk about?” She asked without a smile.

“I want us to sort out our differences, I don't like the way we have been living. We used to be very close and share everything together, but all of a sudden, things changed and we started ignoring each other.” Nneoma said with a pleading voice.

“I don't have any problem with you and I even like the way we are now.” Ifeoma responded.

“You can't tell me that you don't have any problems with me and you are ignoring me. Just tell me what the problem is and I will apologize immediately.” Nneoma persuade.

“Since you want to know what the problem is, I will tell you. You remember we have been friends right from our primary school days till now, but ever since we got admitted into the university, you have changed. You started having new friends and ignoring me, you no longer chat with me the way you used to. The only time you talk to me is when you need something from me and when you also need my help.” Ifeoma said.

“Ah! Ifeoma, so it is because of me making new friends that you are angry. I'm so sorry my dear it will never happen again. By the way, you know you are my favorite and I can't compare you with others. I'm really sorry for that.” Nneoma apologized.

“It's okay, I have forgiven you, but I was jealous seeing my friend chatting with others and smiling while ignoring me in the process I was not happy” She replied.

Nneoma and Ifeoma settled their differences and went back to how they used to be. After their graduation, they got married to the love of their lives and their friendship was passed unto their children.
