Making Friends: My Story and Questions

Lately Ive been facing a big challenge and its all about making new friends. You see I got admitted into a university last year and finding friends here has been really tough for me.

ᵖʰᵒᵗᵒ ᶜʳᵉᵃᵗᵉᵈ ᵘˢᶦⁿᵍ ᶜᵃⁿᵛᵃ

Back at my college I had a lot of friends. We used to play together at the field share our snacks and tell each other secrets. Whether the shared struggles of getting punished together or the laughter over small things It was a lot of fun My friends were also really helpful during my tough times. They helped me so much with homeworks assignments and even got me out of teachers’ punishment using their own little tricks. But here at my uni things feel so different. I often find myself sitting alone during lunchtime and I dont really have anyone to chat with during breaks.

Sometimes I wonder if theres something wrong with me. Why is it so hard to make friends here I miss laughing and playing with others. I miss having someone to talk about my favorite tv show or the new game I’ve been enjoying.

There was this one time when I tried to join a group of teens playing valorant in the computer lab. I love playing BR games and I thought it would be a great way to make friends. But when I asked if I could play too they looked at me strangely and said they already had enough players. I felt really sad and walked away not knowing what to do next.

Another day I saw some students drinking coffee and talking about books when the class was just about to start. I also enjoy coffee and reading books. I mustered up the courage to approach them and begin to tell them about the book I was reading. But the conversation didnt go as I expected. They were friendly but they had already formed their own little group and I felt like an outsider. And this thing kept happening on repeat people in old groups always tended to be busy among themselves and not interested in other peoples.

What I really want to know is how to make friends in a new place. How do I find people who like the same things I do How do I find someone who will laugh at my jokes and share their snacks with me. Ive been thinking maybe I should try joining a club or a team at uni. Like the robotics club or writing related clubs because I really love these fields. Maybe if we have something in common like a hobby or a sport it would be easier to start talking and become friends.

Im looking for advice on how to take the first step and what to say. Maybe theres a secret to making new friends that I just havent learned yet. If anyone has gone through something similar Id love to hear how you managed to find new friends. Making new friends is really important to me right now.
