EMPLOYEE'S CONTRACT BREACH & UNDERPAYMENT: AN ACT OF SLAVERY
One of the major values that is fast eroding if not checked amidst we humans is breach or lack pf trust. Nowadays, it is difficult to just trust anyone like that because people can change at anytime based on some reasons. This breach also finds expression in the relationship between the employer and the employee even as many employers are just fixed on maximizing profit only as against their employees welfare. Even with written agreements, there are alot of breaches especially in some parts of the world where the rule of law is compromised.
Back in the olden days, the major form of slavery is human slavery as a result of war, misuse/abuse of power, human trade/trafficking etc, but nowadays, it's been reformed even in a more subtle and cruel way. One of the modern way of slavery i have seen first-hand and experience is underpayment of the employees and worse, putting them on rigorous work schedule even with some working under toxic conditions. This is common in start-up business and in private sector especially when there are no proper paperwork or official documentations. Take for example, i have heard from a professional colleague of mine whose employer expects him to greet him and collect his bag from him when he comes in the morning which is not in anyway in the agreement, can you just imagine?
Still on this, there have been times i have heared people working under toxic bosses or even given a peanut as salaries and wages with most of them been unuseful to themselves thereafter as a result of the piled up fatigue and stress. I then ask about the conscience of the bosses because i believe they can do better if they put humanity and love first. I have seen people been owed salaries which they really worked for without any formal notification of such delay from their bosses and if confronted, they result to threats and abuses, i count this as modern day slavery which isn't right at all.
I have worked in an establishment where the owner laid off his staffs and yet didn't paid them a dime because of accumulated stock loss which part of it happened even before these people are employed self and not traceable to any of the laid off staffs. What about off job description duties even in corporate establishments as against that which was written down as their job description. Therefore, i believe that every job owner and staff should put humanity and love first even as i believe that we can all do better. I strongly condemn any act of slavery and injustice which is detrimental to our peaceful coexistence.
In all, i counsel that each one should be given what is due them at the appropriate time and each should live without victimisation or threat. Good relationship must be sustained and peace with love should be iur watchword. No to slavery of any kind, humans deserves better. I was a victim of underpayment too and I know how it hurts, you suffer and work for people but they do not care. Just because they know you are looking for what to eat, they would disrespect you, pay you less and expect you to be quiet, it's so unfortunate.
Indeed, you understand it and this must stop if we can only put conscience, humanity and love first.
