An honest lie is an example of an oxymoron. A literal device used when two words with opposite meaning are used side by side.
I usually love the expression and oxymoron gives, it is always cool and poetic.
The words sync and find meaning in it's expression.
Despite the contradicting meaning, there is wisdom in its use.
In a more traditional way, it can be said that it's expressions are like proverbs.
One of the word overshadows the other and the other serves as a support.
In this case, lie is the major word but it is assumed that it is not lie per se but a honest lie.
In reality, there is nothing like honest lie.
We just have to keep moving
