A familiar face refers to someone you recognize or know, even if you don't immediately recall their name or how you know them. It's a sense of recognition, often associated with previous encounters or familiarity with their appearance. Link

I don't know if this happens to me alone or everyone else. We tend to have a joyful feeling whenever we see a familiar face, we just feel happy all of a sudden.

This is in contrast to when we are alone and we can find no familiar face close by, the environment suddenly become a strange one.

But the truth is, we cannot always find a familiar face everytime. Which is why making new friends is important, so we can increase the number of familiar faces we have. The more friends we make, the more familiar faces we have.
