Plagiarism is the use of another's work, words, or ideas without attribution. The word “plagiarism” comes from the Latin word for “kidnapper” and is considered a form of theft, a breach of honesty in the academic community. Link

To plagiarize is to steal, and this is punishable by the law. The sentence differs based on the country the crime was committed.

I really don't know why anyone would take pride in plagiarizing. Why steal someone's hard laboured work for yourself, and not giving them credit for the work they've done. It is bad enough you cannot come up with such work, why claim credit.
