Getting lost to find non-touristy Jewels in Rome [EN/ES]
Getting lost on a trip is the best idea I can choose. When you like life to surprise you I think there is no better thing than that.
The destination I had set in my mind today is Trastevere. A very well known neighborhood of Rome and it turns out that I had to take a streetcar that would drop me there and it is very close to where I am staying. I waited for 20 minutes and got tired of waiting so I decided to walk. I walked around the city a bit, visited the roman circus and also passed by the colosseum while there was a benefit race for a disease. After passing through the crowds I crossed a bridge over the Tibet river and I was there.
The idea was to walk around the neighborhood and find what the neighborhood wants to show me and it turned out that I went off course and ended up in a fair full of stalls in the street. When I saw it I thought, well I walked a few blocks and I let myself go and I kept going for 3 blocks and not only did I not finish but I was looking for the end and it was not possible to find it. The fair has more than 2000 meters of stalls where they offer whatever you can imagine.
Clothing of every shape and form. From fancy dress clothes to sportswear, everything you can think of in between. Shoes and slippers, kitchen utensils and lots of gadgets like massagers, hair clippers and even audio equipment. There came a moment when I saw so many things to buy for 1, 5, 10 and 25 euros and many of good quality that I wanted to buy something just for the sake of buying. But no! I looked for a way out because it was a bit of a trap where you had to finish the whole tour and as soon as I could I thought I was out.
It wasn't like that. I made it one block and the fair I had walked around the parallel street. Hahaha it was like being trapped. On that side they were selling furniture and jewelry. Antiques and so many other things. Many new and others used. Finally I was able to leave the fair and when I looked at the map I was in a neighborhood called Monteverde. I took advantage of the situation and set out to find an alternative route to go to my destination first, this time hiding in the essence of this new neighborhood.
A neighborhood built on top of a hill or mountain, I don't know. With low buildings of 2 or 3 floors, all very nice and with a beautiful peace. Something that I could feel as soon as I entered the intimacy of the neighborhood was its aromas. There is a lot of Chinese Jasmine (in Argentina it is known as such) and it perfumes everything around. Its sloping streets make the pace is more quiet and relaxed so it forces you to listen and feel everything you are living.
After a few blocks on a corner I came across a small restaurant that had some tables outside and I wanted to stop to make this post conscious and be able to describe it with nice words. I ordered a very tasty piece of fried cod and a beer, at a shady table and with the company of a couple who were having lunch next to me.
