Haciendo aviones y barcos de papel [ESP/ENG]

Hola a todos! como mamá y gracias al invierno, cada vez intento pensar en una actividad diferente para hacer con Olivia, hoy se me ocurrió hacer barquitos y aviones de papel, lo cual me trajo muchos recuerdos de mi infancia viviendo en Maracaibo, cuando con mi hermana y mis primas nos bañabamos bajo la lluvia y poníamos barquitos a andar en el agua de la calle, a veces hasta los poníamos a competir y era emocionante esperar a ver cual llegaba primero (parece que fue ayer pero han pasado más de 20 años desde ese entonces) y me dió un poco de nostalgia.

Hello, everyone! As a mom, and thanks to winter, I always try to think of different activities to do with Olivia. Today, I decided to make paper boats and airplanes, which brought back many memories of my childhood living in Maracaibo, when my sister, my cousins, and I would bathe in the rain and float boats in the water on the street. Sometimes we even raced them, and it was exciting to wait and see which one would come in first (it seems like yesterday, but more than 20 years have passed since then), and it made me a little nostalgic.

Como Olivia aún está pequeña, yo hice el barquito y los aviones de papel, el barquito es el más difícil de hacer, pero aún recordaba como hacerlo, una vez listo lo puse sobre una taza con un poco de agua y le mostraba a Olivia como funcionaba, ella estaba entretenida viendolo y a veces lo tocaba y lo movía también, para mí fue muy emocionante verla curiosa con el barquito y más tarde jugando con el avión.

Since Olivia is still little, I made the boat and the paper airplanes. The boat is the hardest to make, but I still remembered how to do it. Once it was ready, I put it on a cup with a little water and showed Olivia how it worked. She was entertained watching it and sometimes touched and moved it too. It was very exciting for me to see her curious about the boat and later playing with the airplane.

Luego de jugar con el barco, le hice el avión de papel, para eso tomé una hoja y la doblé por la mitad, luego hice dos puntas y más tarde las alas, la verdad es que no fue muy difícil (abajo les dejo las fotos de como lo hice), de hecho el barquito si me tomó más tiempo, pero como dije antes aún recordaba como hacerlo, una vez terminado el avión, lo lancé por el aire y Olivia imitaba su vuelo, fue un momento muy divertido y más tarde era ella quien lanzaba el avión de papel por el aire y lo recogía y lo volvía a lanzar.

After playing with the boat, I made her a paper airplane. I took a sheet of paper and folded it in half, then made two points and later the wings. It wasn't really very difficult (below are photos of how I did it). In fact, the boat took me longer, but as I said before, I still remembered how to do it. Once the plane was finished, I threw it into the air and Olivia imitated its flight. It was a very fun moment, and later she was the one throwing the paper airplane into the air, picking it up, and throwing it again.

Sin duda alguna Olivia y yo nos divertimos mucho jugando con los aviones y barquitos de papel, y más tarde leyendo me dí cuenta que esto tiene muchos beneficios para los niños (como mejorar la coordinación ojo-mano, fomentar la concentración, entre otros beneficios relacionados con la ciencia), no solo el origami, sino todo el proceso de doblar, lanzar, observar y volver a intentar en el caso del avión de papel, así que ahora los invito a ustedes como padres a recordar esos momentos de juego también, pues sin duda alguna les va a encantar.

Olivia and I definitely had a lot of fun playing with paper airplanes and boats, and later, while reading, I realized that this has many benefits for children (such as improving hand-eye coordination and promoting concentration, among other science-related benefits), not only origami, but the whole process of folding, throwing, observing, and trying again in the case of paper airplanes. So now I invite you as parents to remember those moments of play as well, because you will undoubtedly love them.
