Time for a Break: Advocating for More Holidays
Some weekends feel like a day because if you close your eyes and open them Monday is already here again, workers really deserve a thorough holiday in other to compensate them for all their tireless work, though I am not working under anyone so I get to decide for myself and resume work anytime I like.
Even if the government decides to give the workers a year of holiday I am not sure it will be enough for some people, I do not buy the idea of a holiday but let there be an increment in their salaries even without a holiday they will be willing to work because their effort is been rewarded at the end of the month.
The people who do enjoy the holiday are the teachers, they get to spend time with their families during the holidays and also have time to rest on weekends, unlike the military and the paramilitary who are always at work come rain come shine.
There are enough holidays in the year and I do not think there should be more holidays for workers, the only thing I wish to fight for is that government should know how to compensate their hard work, increase their salaries and pay them at the right time not delaying their salaries to solve the problem of the state, some governors are fond of that, they love to delay their worker's salaries which is very wrong and some of them can owe more than a year which is causing havoc in most states in my country.
Working with the federal government is a big privilege because you are entitled to some benefits and their salaries are paid at the right time, they always work from Monday to Friday and weekends are exempted, also they have the opportunity to apply for leave at any time they want, so I do not think there is a nerd for holiday for those people.
When talking about holidays, people who need this most are the people working in private organizations, private companies do enslave people they believe in changing people like clothes without any benefits, the government needs to do something about that, the way they treat their workers is uncalled for, they never care about their lives and this is heartbreaking.
My neighbor was working in a bottled water factory some months back and he was involved in an accident when we went to deliver water to some shops, he spent days at the hospital and the company car was damaged, the company told him he would pay for the car when he recovers that it will never be their loss, I was shocked when he told me this, how can they be heartless and mean, does that mean they never care about his well-being even if he lost his life on that cause, he always worked tirelessly, he only has a day off to rest out of the seven days in a week.
I believe the government needs to initiate rules that will govern these people as well, there should be enough time for them to rest and also they should implement a minimum wage for them as well, the pay is less but they work harder, they are the ones who need this holiday more than others.
Working in the private sector can be frustrating and tiring, even some companies will not adhere to most holidays, they will work even on workers' day which is meant for all workers to rest and enjoy the day.
This is my entry for this week's episode of hivelearners community prompt of #hl-w109e3 which the topic is "WE NEED MORE HOLIDAYS"
It disheartening to see a organisation treat their staff like that, I mean how can someone get involve in an accident while doing his duty, get injured in the process and yet you want him to recover and still pay for damages, it's not idea.
I hope something is done to regulate that and as well procure enough rest for workers.
We really need more holidays so that we won't break down. Do you know that this may be the reason some people just slump and die. They don't have rest. They work all through the week and don't even have time to sleep.
Thanks for sharing
You are right ma, some people need this money more than anything in this world so they jump on any available opportunity and this can take their lives, one job I can never apply for is factory worker, those people can be so mean

What sad news it's very bad for a company to demand a replacement of a vehicle without thinking about the human life that was involved in the accident all they cared about was their vehicle, so the vehicle is worth more than the person's health, it's bad na, some companies shouldn't be doing this.
You're very correct I think the federal government should look into some company's cases on how they treat their staffs.
Seriously people working with private sectors deserve more holiday do you know the work like elephant and eat like ant. They should be given more holiday
Some private organizations don't care about their staffs. How can a company be demanding for a vehicle replacement not even minding if the life of the person is in pain. That's really bad.
You see in life, is either you have your own business and be the boss of your own or you work in a government sector. That's the best
The truth remains that our society, I.e the Naija world is very deficient with regards knowledge of how to treat workers
Such an act of asking the worker to pay for the damaged cat is a total wickedness
So if the man had died, they would ask it from family abi wetin, its just a pity

Those factory workers are trying and they are enduring nonsense, those private organizations are just live slave camps indeed, they never care about their staff's wellbeing, all they are after is their profit.
Most small companies are like slave camps, they over work their workers without giving them adequate pay and benefits. If only the government could look into them but they won't.

You know our government is gaining from it so they will never say anything about it, failed people. Thank you for your support dear
You are welcome,
it is well with those working in private sha, especially those private school teachers.
Most private establishments do not care about the welfare of their workers, their concern is to maximize profit so they need them to work their lives out and won't fail to lay off any worker who cause them loss.
Like you said, we already have enough holidays, the focus of the government and other establishments are to create an enabling environment for the workers and pay them as at when due

Working in the private sector can be so frustrating. They would use you till they suck you dry with no break.
To work in government sector mostly requires connections. To start up a business yourself would require capital which some people don't have.
I hope things change for better because work continues even when the worker is no more.
