How We Can Make a Difference in Our Environment

Taking care of the environment is one good thing we can do for our community, everything is not about government, we can never blame our government for being dirty and feel less concerned about our surroundings,

Our environment speaks more about us, and the kind of environment we live in tells more about the type of friends we keep, I can never bring my friends to a dirty environment because I know they will never visit me again.

Taking care of our surroundings keeps us safe from different types of diseases like cholera, typhoid, malaria, and so on, most of the diseases occur in a dirty environment but keeping the environment neat and clean saves us from all those diseases.

I am allergic to dirty environments, so I do my cleaning every day before going to work, I see it as my normal routine apart from cleaning my apartment, though I have times that I do skip this duty maybe on Sunday whenever I'm late for Sunday service but I must make sure to do it the next day.

Mostly on Saturdays that I am free, I always come out with my waste bin and sweep around my environment, picking around and disposing of it properly, most times my neighbors will join me but not all the time, we always do our monthly sanitation every Saturday of the month, where we will cut small grasses around the house and sleep every angle In the compound, apart from the sanitation day most people won't come out to work on a normal day.

At some point, I stopped doing this in my area because no one was helping me out but later I discovered that I wasn't doing it for anyone but to keep myself safe from diseases, I resumed back and started my duty some months ago.

It is good to keep our environment clean regardless of who is helping or not, it is for our benefit and not to impress anyone. In our community we have been trying to get a waste bin from the government because we lack one in our area, so last week everyone decided to contribute for the waste bin, we bought it and we have been disposing of our waste product in the bin but I'm yet to take picture of this bin.

Getting this bin has limited the way people through things around, the environment is now clean and tidy, though our environment is good and neat but we need to keep it clean always, I have been making an effort to talk to some people who can come together and make this work every Saturday instead of once in a month.

I have been contributing greatly to the development of my community and also keeping it tidy is my priority because of my health and the children around me, everyone knows how much they will pay in the hospital to treat malaria or typhoid, but keeping our environment clean will never take anything from us except our efforts.

Let us come together and preach against diseases in our community, we all know health is wealth, so let us prioritize our well-being.
