Do cash rewards foster a growth mindset or a fixation on short-term gains?
Reward is a means of encouragement, it is a way to appreciate such students to keep on trying their best and also encourage others to sit up in their academy, it may not be necessarily money, it can either come in the form of a scholarship or any other means if such child is still in secondary level.
One thing that I have odd in my country is that we celebrate all the programs that never add value to our lives, we know how much people are giving to Big Brother to sponsor the show and the show is just a meaningless one, so irritating and non-educative, if we can use the same energy to invest in education, giving scholarships to young children who are very vibrant and concern about education then this country would have been a better one than this.
I am not saying it is wrong to invest in entertainment but education should come first, it is paramount that we invest in it, some years back I read on social media that a guy graduated with first class in one of the most reputable universities in the country, on the convocation day the governor of the state was present and gave the guy #5000 in naira, not dollars and the following year the same man gave the winner of big brother #50 million for emerging the winner and also gave him a house in one of his estates, this is very bad, does that mean he never encourages education or entertainment comes before education?
In my opinion, I will never suggest a cash reward at all, there are so many ways in which money can be useless, how long will the money last? If we are to give a reward let it be a reward that will last long for them let it come in the form of a scholarship, pay the school fees to the last level, or give them a befitting job after graduation.
Some people only have the brain to read not the brain to manage, not everyone can make use of money effectively, some are very poor in spending and that is when family problems will begin to surface, but if they have a promising job that can change their lives then is greater than money.
Giving cash is never a way to reward someone for their effort, at some point money will finish if not utilized well but investing in their future will always make them do more, they wouldn't want to disappoint the person who is sponsoring them.
I will not encourage giving cash, this is never a way to motivate someone who puts his or her energy into being the first in the class, for example, those people who have been winning Big Brothers and get away with cash prices what do they do with the money? Most of them are clubbing, buying cars, going into music which doesn't last for a year then that is the end of the names in the country, what of the children that are representing the country do they compensate them at all?
Money will always fade, problems will always arise for them to solve when they are giving money but investing in their future will always be a blessing to them, it is a means of motivating and appreciating them for putting their best into their studies.
Here is my entry for today's episode of hivelearners community prompt of #hl-w118e2 which the topic is "CASH REWARD FOR ACADEMIC BRILLIANCE"

Like seriously giving students money for their brilliant performance is not enough because the money would finish and they still have a very long way to go.
So Instead of giving them cash, I believe they should be sponsored because that will help them for a very long time.
You are right my sister, money won't go a long way.
Your are right. What I will add is that both can be done simultaneously. A cash reward can be given to the student while opportunity is opened for him also career wise.
It's looks as if we are in the spirit 😂
They pay big brother contestants crazily but when it comes to educational contest it Is Zero
My dear, people involve so much cash when it comes to cash rewards for entertainment but then look at the negative sides when it comes to cash reward for academic excellence. This is a great post
It seems we both have similar perspective concerning this topic, it is crazy how some politicians root for people in the entertainment industry without paying any attention to the educational sector. The reason for that is that they are trying to promote their political career through the popularity of those celebrities.
Money is not the best reward for excellence. Scholarship and job opportunities should be a reward for academic excellence.
Giving a student only money for their effort is not an effective way to impact such a student.
So I agree with you, it should be accompanied by something more tangible that can last for a long time.

Your point of view is really amazing my dear

I agree with you about investing in the future of the student by giving them scholarships or even employment. Unfortunately, our leaders have misplaced priorities and therefore prefer to channel resources to things that do not add value.

You know I was about to disagree and then I was like truly, what if the money finishes, does it mean he should keep on studying so you’re right

You do have a point, to be honest, but still, cash actually goes a long way for students. For those in lower levels, it can be converted to scholarships or learning materials while those in higher institutions can use such amount to build a life outside academics or just to support themselves. However, there are different ways one can look at a topic and your points are very valid, thanks for sharing with us.
