There are already games using Hive Engine tokens in various ways, so real-life case studies exist. An advantage of using L2 tokens is that authentication, wallets, swap pools, staking, delegating, transfers, and trading infrastructure already exist. The downside is that token parameters are difficult/impossible to change after setup. The L2 might also not be fast enough or the resource costs too high to spam with every in-game micro-transaction. In that case, a game can create a rollup to L2/L1 to maintain transparency/verifiability if that's desired and have some method to transfer tokens in/out of the game to the regular L2 world. Also, for some games, it might not be good for the game economy to make all in-game resources transferrable to L2 tokens. Games can benefit from allowing the creators control over how in-game resources work so that they can respond to changes in the game economy and keep the game fun.
