What is Growth? Is It Difficult?

When I consider the path I have taken on what would best be described as my path of becoming, I must ask: Was this a challenging process for me? It calls on one to face ones fears, venture into the unknown and make decision that are hard to make. But there is also equal opportunities for growth and development, change and metamorphoses, for discovering oneself.

In retrospect, it could be seen that such process is not always a smooth linear rise to progress, but more often resembles a ride on a topic that has developed me as a person. There are success and there are failure, there are rationality and there are stupidity. However, over the years, I have gained an important insight about myself, strengths, and the opportunity for the overall improvement.

I have had the opportunity to name the major difficulties I contend with along the process of self-creation; the most significant one is the fear of the unknown. Entering unfamiliar territory is a cause for concern and can cause a lot of anxieties since it means that one has to step out of his or her comfort zone. Shame and its related feelings of fear of failure rejection and disappointment can hinder a person’s progress and keep one from embracing change. This fear has been my shadow on my way, though it does not speak, it whispers negative thoughts and doubts.

However, I have learnt that change actually cannot happen without risk and moving out of one’s comfort zone. It is when we are uncomfortable and do not know what to do that personal development takes place. The following is the elaboration of how the principles apply in my case: Change strategies: Change is a core principle in the company as it fosters learning, growth and development By challenging my limitations I have grown and been able to explore new opportunities of development.

One more problem I have faced during my personal growth process is self-uncertainty. Self doubt, self esteem issues in relation to skills and intelligence, feeling like a failure, and the desire to be like others have also been present in my process of development. The volume of self-voice is often very loud, so there are moments, I have no faith in myself and the ability to succeed. However, I have discovered that one is bound to have these feelings of insecurity and that will to get over the hump, one needs to be fearless, strong and believe in oneself.

One of the ways I have learnt to conquer self doubt is by embracing a growth mindset for it acknowledges the fact that I have the capacity to do the right thing. A Growth mindset helps to see problems as solutions, and failures as experiences not to be repeated the same way, but ways to reach our goals. The triad of fixed mindset, growth mindset, and challenge have helped me avoid a negative mindset towards a challenge and accepting the fact that I can learn from the challenge.

Another component of my learning process was the goals and actions I have practiced during my personal growth process. Lack of goals and constructive activity plan means that people can quite quickly disappear in a vast pool of confusion and aimless indecision. Out of all pre-shift activities, a development plan that included the effective use of goals that are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound has outlined the areas I should focus on and get me a clear understanding of the direction I should take. Pursing these goals, at least on a micro level, has kept me on task, inspired and, most importantly, committed to change.

As another source of strength, help from other people has been enlisted in conquering the issues of growth. This could be in form of being trained, coached, counseled or being a member of support group; those who have support they are going through a transformational process. Being associated with people with similar goals has produced a feeling of support from the community of people, who are interested in personal development.

Therefore, in summary, the process of growth can be described as a very hard and often painful way, though at the same time, it opens up a new and more fulfilling life. It clearly shows how confronting fears, tackling obstacles, and undergoing change not only leads to personal transformations and accomplishments but also to the finding of one’s self and contentment. Thus, through possessing the growth mindset, defining the objectives, initiating activities, and mobilizing resources, I have fostered my self-leadership journey with the courage, stamina, and purpose.

Although the process of development can still be problematic and require effort, it is worth focusing on the improvement of oneself and using all the opportunities for self-realization. Sometimes, growth can be a problematic trait for me, but the lessons I get to learn about myself and my growth processes are totally worth the trouble and all the obstacles on the way. As I evolve, I am moved by the thought that every problem that is thrown to me is a way by which I empower myself towards an even better life.
