The Harder You Work, the Luckier You Become
The general public has a notion that success is equal to luck or God’s gift, in that one is destined to succeed due to certain in-born talents and characteristics. However, the question is that luck is not a force that is somewhere in the universe and winds up favoring some people. On the contrary luck is something which is more or less in our hands itself and is likely to be proportional to the efforts and struggles to work for getting what we want.
This might sound like a mere saying, ‘no risk, no gain’ but it retains a core of truth in it as a reality of life. Before proceeding further let us first clarify a myth prevailing in the society that success is the result of luck. Admittedly, the aspect of luck in our lives cannot be regarded as non-existent but it is not the sole reason of success. Thus, luck often stems from the action and decision making of a person.
Hard work and persistent effort in the achievement of our goals enables us in the following ways. First, the truth that hard work pays off, specifically, it contributes to the acquisition of mastery in our specialty and skills. Amidst such dynamics, the only way one can perfect himself in a certain line is by devoting time and energy in practice. This level of skill and expertise then leads to new avenues of success in the sense that one is then better placed to deal with the matters of life that are bound to happen.
determination and much effort make one have strong belief and endurance. This way self- assurance and self-determination are developed when one is willing to work long hours and work hard towards the goals that one wants to achieve. By chance to survive through adversity and failure, the resilience and the ability to get back on track are developed in the model. This resilience may be one of the ingredients toward the success because it gives a force for moving forward.
Last but not the least, hard work pays one attracts opportunities. Success in one area is related to success in all the other areas, and it is with this that the business adage that success begets success comes in. Just like the leadership dimension, the hard work one puts in contributes to the recognition of others, and they develop respect and admiration for you. This in turn creates new opportunities and contacts which can lead to further effectiveness of success in the venture. Writing a new job or an encouraging partnership will attract opportunities, and meeting someone who will positively impact one’s life whether in a new job or partnership or meeting the right people at the right place at the right time is a testimony that hard work opens the door to opportunities.
However, it is also important to state that hard work should not be confused with success since it does not have certain guarantees. It should be accompanied by hard work, concentration and being goal directed. It is also important to sweat, gamble, and go out of ones comfort to secure a position and also to actualize one’s potential. Success is seldom immediate, we have to work for it and often for quite a number of years.
To sum up, it is possible to claim that the notion of luck as the main reason for success is a misconception. Sure, luck can work wonders in a person’s life but, at the same time, it acts as a part that only an individual can shape, concerning his or her successes. It applies for all of us that in order to succeed and achieve the ambitions, it does not require much, just hard work, passion and determination. Therefore, there is truth to what one is likely to say the next time he or she hopes for good luck, the luckier one gets when he or she works harder.
