The Historical Part Of My Country's Democracy Day June 12.

My country Democracy's day is a remarkable day in the lives of Nigerians as well as me, so as a witness to this fact,For the past 18 years, Nigerians have been celebrating May 29th, as Democracy Day. That was the date when for the second time in our history, an elected civilian president took over from a military Heads of states, The first time this happened was on October 21st, 1979.

As a matter of fact,Nigerians has shared a lot in under this government, that was in 12th June, 1993, this time was more significant as Democracy in the Nigerian context than that of 29th May, or even the October 1st which is the independent day.

To express more deeply in the context of democracy day in Nigeria that is June 12th, The 1993 own was the day when Nigerians comes one voice in groups and organisation, that comprised of thousand of people expressed their democratic willingness to support in what was undisputedly , the freest, fairest and most peaceful elections since the Independence of my country Nigeria. This is a fact to attest that the outcome of that year electoral process that was not upheld by the then military Government did not distract from the democratic purpose of that process.

As a matter of fact, after due consultations, the Federal Government of my country Nigeria do decide then henceforth, every 12 June will be celebrated as Democracy Day. Therefore, government has decided to reward the highest honour of the land, GCFR, to late Chief MKO Abiola, the presumed candidate who wins the June 12th 1993 elections that was cancelled and his running mate as Vice President, Ambassador Baba Gana Kingibe, is also to be invested with a GCON. As history recorded it, the tireless fighter for human rights and the actualization of the June 12th elections and indeed for Democracy in general, the late Chief Gani Fawehinmi SAN was to be awarded a GCON.

This commemoration take place on Tuesday June 12th, 2018 during the government of president Mohamedu Buhari GCGR , the date which in future years will replace May 29th as a National Public Holiday in celebration of Nigeria Democracy Day.
As a matter of fact, today being the 12rh day of June 2025, the federal government of Nigeria under the able leadership of president Tinubo,so as we are the country is celebrating the 12 June as was pronounced.
What a remarkable day in the lives of Nigerians.
