The Chronosurge 2
”N0!” I screamed in agony as I watched my daughter collide with the mysterious shadow figure that slammed into me.
In a desperate bid to save my life, Elaine sacrificed herself. As her form merged with the shadow figure entity, her skin began to crack open, not in pain but bright light shone through the cracks. She was teetering on the brink of a combustion that seemed inevitable and there was nothing I could do to stop it.
More light blazed from her cracked skin, casting such radiance that danced and weaved through the atmosphere. As the brilliance reached its peak, vibrations filled the air followed by a thunderous blast.
My daughter’s body transformed into a cascade of luminous particles, disintegrating into dust. The faint smile on her face was the last thing I saw before she died.
More debris fell on me in the aftermath of the blast. There was a deafening silence for several seconds before I finally regained enough energy to stand up. So I began to struggle to remove myself from the debris that I was buried under. Eventually, I freed myself at the cost of a sprained leg. Apart from my heart-wrenching ordeal, I was grateful my anti-radiation suit shielded me from bruises.
Freed from the debris, I quickly went to the spot where my daughter had combusted right before my eyes. Seeing a body form lying on the floor unconscious, hope surged within me as my heart leaped in joy. Unfortunately, as I got closer, I realized that the unconscious body was not of my daughter's but rather that of a man.
”Who is this?” I whispered to myself as I went to turn the body over regardless of the searing pain that surged through my sprained leg.
With effort, I turned the body over and a gasp escaped my lip as I recognized the unconscious body. Before me lay the Norwegian scientist, Erik Nordahl. The man who ruined our world because of power. The man who invented a machine that altered the very fabric of our existence. The man who killed my daughter.
A storm of rage began to stir in my blood such that all my muscles were tensed. I wanted to kill this man, I wanted to take his life for my taking my daughter's. I wanted revenge but the hope that my daughter would come back alive made me spare his life. Since he was the origin of our predicament, he must be the solution to it or he would be the reason why I taint my soul with darkness.
Eight hours later
Alastair sat across from an unconscious Erik, who had been tied expertly to a beam in the laboratory, but then he became impatient. Abruptly rising, he strode over to Erik and delivered a resounding blow to his jaw, then he swore under his breath clutching his strained leg.
Erik moaned as consciousness slowly infiltrated his senses. He tried to blink his eyes open, and focus on the person standing in front of him. His weary eyelids fluttered open after a second attempt. He winced at the fiery pain that shot through every nerve in his jaw as he tried to move it.
Finally, his eyes focused on the towering, huge angry man standing before him. Alastair, with auburn curly hair and piercing blue eyes that stared at Erik with rage. As he looked into the eyes of Alastair, he realized that the rage was solely meant for him.
”You bastard! At last you are awake, I thought you were dead.” I blurted out.
"W-where am I?" Erik asked, in confusion.
”You remember this place?! Look around mate and see the damage you've caused.”
I watched intently as the weasel took in his environment, waiting for a sign of recognition on his face. In a flash, I saw it in his eyes, and all of a sudden he became white as sheet realizing where he was and what he had done.
”I-I did this? H-how many people died?” he asked, his voice laced with regret.
Not having patience for his regretful questions, I pressed a small remote I had in my hand that activated the electric cuff I had placed around both his thighs while he was unconscious. I watched volts of electricity coursed through his body, electrocuting him in an agonizing way. He screamed out his lungs until sweat trickled from his temple down to his face then I stopped his torture.
”Now, you listen to me carefully. You ruined our world when your reckless machine exploded. It froze time, gave us all super speed abilities that killed almost all the population of our world and nine hours ago, you killed my daughter because she was trying to save me.”
I yanked at his brown hair, forcing his head back, and whispered in his ear, ”Now, you will fix the problem you created, bring my daughter back, then I will decide whether you live or die.”
”I-I don't know if that will be p-possible. I tampered with time and it is one the most unstable determinant in the universe,” Erik said as I detected a note of fear and uncertainty.
”You're saying you can't fix your mess?!” I blurted as more rage brewed in me.
”I-I am so sorry. I don't think there is a solution to fix this.”
”AHHH! No No No!” I screamed.
In an untamed rage, I suddenly connected my fist with Erik's face multiple times until blood spluttered out of his nose and mouth. To intensify his torture, I retrieved a pocket knife from my anti-radiation suit and plunged it into one of his thighs till I felt the tip of the knife touch a solid surface.
He screamed and writhed in agonizing pain but that didn't stop me from pulling out the knife and delivering a hard blow to his temple, rendering him unconscious.

One thing I've realized about your stories, you won't tailor it to suit the happy-ending whims of anyone. The protagonist isn't invincible just cause he's the protagonist and that's rather refreshing to see. I feel really sad for Elaine and the hopelessness her father must feel is palpable. Can't wait to read the next part!🌺
Heheh, life is unpredictable and I like to give that to my readers just like a pinch of reality. I am glad you could relate with what Elaine's father is going through. Thank you for reading. I appreciate your time here. 😊
