Sinners (2025) || Movie Review.

The title of this movie doesn't give away any insight on the storyline. From the title, you would think maybe it is a Historical Religious Drama or a period horror but it is something totally different and unique. This movie actually opened my eyes to some controversial issue related to spirituality and music.

I've always been a fan of blues and jazz and seeing that this movie was a blend of horror, music (blues and jazz to be specific), paranormal and history it piqued my interest. Also, I am a fan of Michael Jordan’s work.

Sinners (2025) is a Warner Bros. Pictures movie that was produced, written and directed by Ryan Coogler. It is an American horror film that mixes blues music and historical themes. It was set in 1932 in the Mississippi. It starred Michael B. Jordan, Hailee Seinfeld, Miles Caton, Jack O'Connell, Wunmi Mosaku, Jayme Lawson, Omar Miller and Delroy Lindo.

The Plot.

In Clarksdale, Mississippi, we were introduced to Sammie who is a singer, guitarist and a Pastor’s son. Not long, two identical twins (Elijah aka Smoke and Elias aka Stack) return back to Clarksdale which was their home after spending seven years in Chicago. Soon they purchase a sawmill from Hogwood to start a juke joint for the Black Community there. The aim was to bring all the black people together using music. The one thing they all had in common apart from their skin colour.

Smoke and Stack needed people around them to help bring their dreams alive. So the twins worked towards recruiting and convincing the people they needed. Sammie, their cousin, was recruited but his father warned him not to go with them considering the dangers of blues music and the demons that come with it according to him, but he went with them regardless. Also they recruit Delta Slim, a pianist and a performer. Grace and Bo Chow as material supplier, a cornbread worker as the bouncer and finally Smoke recruited his wife Annie as the cook.

On the other hand, somewhere else, an Irish-immigrant Remmick seeks shelter with a couple. He pleads with them to give shelter because he was being hunted by Choctaw vampire hunters. Seeing the condition he was in and thinking he is just a helpless human, they helped him. However, some moments later, Remmick turns this couple into vampires in a nasty way. After the transition of the couple was complete, he took them to the twins' Juke joint. What happens next?

My Review And Rating.

I enjoyed this movie. It was interesting and I loved it! Also, there is nothing that is perfect in this world.

I have added this movie to one of the best movies of 2025. This movie is good and it is also not perfect considering the shitty remakes, reboots and films we have seen in the box office from 2024-2025. I love this movie, especially how it was directed, the music used for some narration, and how the acts were carefully and brilliantly arranged.

Thanks to Ryan Coogler with his directional skills, the plot was arranged in such a way that the first act introduced all the main characters fully. The viewers get to immediately understand how and what fuels the goal of each character. Also, the background of each character was explained in a simple way. This style made me connect with almost all the characters easily without any confusion.

The second act introduced me the antagonist in a nasty and unexpected way. This was the plot twist and it changes the whole vibe of the movie to that of a paranormal-horror vibe. As the viewers are adjusting to the new theme introduced from the second act, it progresses quickly and then the third comes in with a climax and then its conclusion along with some chaotic scenes.

The cinematography and setting was good. I love how music was used to narrate some part of the storyline to further give it a deeper meaning. For me the music aspect brought the story to life. I enjoyed all the music. The setting was well captured. The costume, location and language/accent.

The cast was amazing, especially Michael Jordan as Smoke and Stack. I was actually impressed with his performance. He did a fantastic job portraying both roles. The supporting characters play their parts well and they all maintained their spotlights.

This movie shows all the struggles of a black community, the racism,(which we still see on a daily basis everywhere around the world both physically and virtually).

Rating this movie, I will give 7 out 10 stars. It was a nice, simple, straightforward and enjoyable movie. It is not perfect nor was it 100% impressive. Did you enjoy the movie?

@esther-emmanuel, I really enjoyed watching the movie. It is a masterpiece,it keeps you at the edge of your seat through relentless tension, brutal action, and escalating horror. Its mix of vampire sieges, racial violence, and personal betrayals builds non-stop suspense in the juke joint climax.

In my view, Sinners (2025) teaches that true freedom and survival demand preserving one's cultural identity and community bonds over temptations of power or assimilation that erode the soul.Vampirism represents parasitic forces like racism or false saviors promising escape from oppression, but they destroy individuality and heritage.Characters thrive through ancestral faith, music and mutual care, while those chasing shortcuts, like immortality or easy revenge, face spiritual ruin.Great movie 👍.

Sinners is undoubtedly one of the best films of last year. Jordan solidifies his status as a very good actor; we already knew that from his previous work, but I think this film puts him back in the spotlight. Visually, I think the background they created with the music is what I liked most, and like you, I enjoyed it quite a lot.
