Silver Silence By Nalini Singh. Book Review.
“you’re young enough to adapt. You must. The world is changing, and Mercants have survived so many centuries, so many empires, because we adapt without losing the core of who we are.”.- Ena (Silver's Grandmother).*
In my last review, I mentioned how I have been in a "read block situation" and now that I have recovered, I decided to read a book from one of my favorite authors, Nalini Singh.
If you're into fantasy / paranormal and you haven't read her works, all I can say is that you are missing out.
Nalini Singh is the queen of fantasy, paranormal / supernatural and urban fantasy. Her works are unique, excellently written, and decently spicy. I fell in love with the works when I first read Angel’s Blood in 2019. It was the best experience. I so much enjoyed reading that book that I further delved into her other books and series that she had written like a starving lion. Nalini’s work is just like a popular saying, ’When go black, you don't return’. That was what happened to me.
Today, I am going to be talking about a book from a series she wrote. This series has about seventy-five works and with more works coming up in the future. This series has been divided into two seasons and right about now, I have read up to the first book in the second season.
Title: Silver Silence.
Series: Psy-changeling
Season: 2, (Psy-changeling Trinity, Book 1)
Published: 13th June 2017
Pages: 467
’The Psy-changeling series’ is a unique series in which the world building is a blend of sci-fi, urban fantasy, paranormal, mystery and romance. Mostly, people categorize it only under paranormal fantasy, but it is not.
This series centers around a world where three races: the Psy, who are upgraded humans known for their mental superpowers which ranges from telepathy, telekinesis, and foreseeing; the Changelings, who are humans but can shapeshift into various animals to access their beastly powers; and humans, who are just humans but widely considered the weakest race.
To combat frequent violence among the races, the Pys race decided 100 years before the series was set to embrace a program called Silence. With the Silence program the Pys race trained their young ones to be coldly logical and feel no emotion. Basically, they became a race without emotion or compassion, but unfortunately this did more harm than good.
Brief Summary of the Synopsis.
Now it's 2080, the Silence program has fallen due to the rampant darkness swirling through the majority of the Pys race’s minds which drives them to violent madness. To stop this darkness from spreading more as it destroys their hivenet, the E-pys had to create a honeycomb hivenet to accommodate all the Pys. This made the three races come together in a unified front called the alliance council.
A branch of this new alliance council between the three races is headed by Silver Merchant. A telepathic Psy who is now being targeted by those who don't want the newly formed alliance council to evolve. Soon Silver was poisoned by an efficient assassin but with luck on her side, the Alpha of the Stonewaters bear pack was saved and called for immediate help.
Valentin Mikhailovich Nikolaev, the Alpha of the Stonewaters bear changeling pack didn't only save her life, he also intends to bring wildness into Silver life and to own her as his mate regardless of the time bomb in her head which could lead to her death. On the other hand, Silver is icy, devoid of emotions, with the Silent program still active. How will Valentin convince her? Who is the assassin who tried to kill Silver? But the Alpha is hell bent on finding the identity of the assassin.
My Review And Rating.
This book has made me fall in love with bear creatures. Now, I like them haha. I enjoyed reading this book. It was fun and it gave me a lot of laughs and leg wiggling actions. Immediately I started reading this book. It was like I was sucked into a futuristic world, where technology had advanced beyond our comprehension in this age. The suspense, story arc, world building, the characters, the action, the mystery and the turns and twists were all worth the read.
I devoured this book like I haven't read a book in a while. It took me about 48 hours to finish the book regardless of work, and my other life activities that interrupt my reading. I think the suspense and mystery in this book got me hooked till the end.
This book was well written. It was a blend of action, mystery, paranormal, sci-fi and a little bit of romance. On the other hand, the author explores some strong themes like family dynamics, trust, betrayal, love, and evolution. With all the themes, the author created her character solidly well. Every character and sub-plot characters that were introduced were all unforgettable. When I finished reading this book, I literally remembered all the characters in this book down to the youngest bear child character. They all left a mark on the readers.
My favorite characters are Valentin, the Alpha of Stonewaters, Silver Merchant, Kaleb, Vasic, Dumi, Pavel and his twin, and Nova. All these characters were so interesting to read.
The narrative technique was a unique one that involved multi POVs and a strong omniscient POV. The descriptive technique was strong and very well visualized so that the reader could feel present in the world. I will always love Nalini Singh’s work. I can't help not being attracted to good works.
Rating this book, I give it 4.2 out of 5 stars. It was an interesting and fun read for me. I would recommend this book and series to lovers of urban fantasy and paranormal.
If you like this review, then check out ’Psy-changeling' series. I promise you won't be disappointed.

Congrats on starting the second season of Nalini's psy-changeling series! 😛 After I finished the first season, I couldn't bring myself to start this second one because of the introduction of new characters. I'm used to the old guys! Hehe.
Nalini's world building is unique and super fascinating. I think I enjoy her Guild Hunters series more. A well-written review! Nicely done.
