Finally, I decided to watch one of the famous TV series of 2023. I should have watched it all this while but I didn't want anything to influence my review. I wanted all the gushing about this show to go down before I watched it. However I have read a lot of amazing positive reviews about this series in this community and on the internet but I forgot about the reviews. So when I saw the show, it was like I went in blind (that was a good thing by the way).

The fact that I love dystopian films made me attracted to this TV show and also, it has been a while since I have watched dystopian themed films. How the first episode of this TV show made me speechless and kind of regretful.

’Silo (2023)’is a sci-fi, dystopian themed TV series with ten episodes that is based on the Wool trilogy novels (Wool, Shift, and Dust) written by Hugh Howey and created by Graham Yost. It is a series that is set in a dystopian future where more than ten thousand people live in an underground Silo that is made up of 144 levels. It starred Rebecca Ferguson, Rashida Jones, David Oyelowo, Common, Tim Robbins, Harriet Walter, Avi Nash, Rick Gomez, and Chinaza Uche.

In the underground community "Silo," people live without the knowledge of their history civilization. This history was destroyed during a rebellion war that happened a hundred and forty years earlier. However, Sheriff Holston Becker tells his Deputy, Sam Marnes, that he wants to "go out” which was forbidden in Silo, to do so at any point in time or situation. His desire to “go out” was as a result of his wife's revelation that the world outside viewed on the Silo's screens is fake and manipulated which led to her asking to “go out”.

Three years earlier before he went out, Holston was investigating the death of IT expert George Wilkins, who had been collecting forbidden historical relics. He soon found out that George and his wife had been working together. This discovery made him dig deeper into George's death. With many secrets he uncovered, Holston asked to “go out” after which he left behind a statement nominating engineer Juliette Nichols as his successor.

After Holston’s departure from Silo, Mayor Ruth with, Deputy Sam Marnes, went to seek after Juliette in the mechanical level, the lower levels. As she seek out Juliette, she meet with different objections from people who didn't want Juliette to be the Holston’s successor. However, in the end Mayor Ruth chose her to succeed Holston as the new Silo's sheriff regardless of the odd objections. Soon, Juliette assumes the position of the new sheriff. Will she complete Holston’s work of seeking for thr truth?

My Review And Rating.

After watching this TV show, I doubt that I would pick up its book to read, not after what I went through to actually finish watching the series. I understand the massive hype this TV series received, nor did I make sense of this show. I feel like the I watching a different from what the hypers have watched. For those who enjoyed this, I don't know what you saw but for me, this show makes no sense to me. I don't know or maybe I watched the wrong Silo. (Don't come for me, if you enjoyed this show, this is my alter ego 😏).

When I start watching this show, it started really well, the first two episodes were somewhat, interesting. However, from episode three it takes a terrible nosedive. Each episodes passed with a hardly and interesting development to the storyline. All I noticed was the continuous and unending scenes of people walking out and coming out of rooms and levels. Immediately I became bored and irritable. The show was beginning to piss me off because, I was lost, nothing made sense to me about the plot, and the characters, I couldn't connect with them except for Ferguson.

The plot was okay, averagely written well, but in my opinion, the writing was lazy because a lot of unnecessary fillers were used to stretch the show to ten episodes long. Again, the dialogues were all not genuine. Some dialogues were not even meant to be added to the show, because it was of no value to the plot. There were lots of odd plot twist that did turn out to thrilling after the loose ends were tied. This show was a good idea but it failed to impress me. waste.

The characters of this show were poorly defined and weakly built. Some their mannerism and dialogue most times seemed forced just to get it over and serve it importance. serve an event or a trope. At least one. Fergus on was the only character I could connect with, the rest of the characters and supporting feel flat. If they had been killed off within the show, honestly I wouldn't remember or feel anything for them.

The visual, cinematography, and CGI was excellent, I will give that. Also, it was gray no colors which I understand and it was done well to actually bring the story to life. Maybe in another timeline, Silo was produced into a movie, it would have made more sense and it will entertaining to watch.

Rating this movie, I will give 4 out of 10 stars. I love dystopian themed films but this one was different and I felt I wasn't watching a dystopian themed show. At first, I regretted watching it but in the end, it was torture because I struggled to finish watching the show.
