My Top 80s Songs
Music has become a vital part of our lives since the beginning of time. We can't avoid it nor can we erase it. It is all around us in the form of a silent whisper. Weaving its tendrils into our existence and begins to be part of us.
Music is like the language of the heart and soul. It is a melody that is difficult to explain but can be interpreted through words, chords and sounds. With every word, the soul is voiced out, with every chord, a story is told and with every sound, emotions are portrayed as memories are made.
Right from when I was a child, according to my parents I always loved listening to music. Most of the time, my parents use some certain kind of music to calm me down. As I was growing up I began to pick interest in certain artists. Till now I don't why I still love their songs but I still enjoy listening to their songs anytime of the day.
Songs that are being released these days don't impact anything. They are not unique anymore like they used to be back in the 70s, 80s and 90s. Qualities of songs are being watered daily by the new generation of artists. Sometimes I listen to some songs and the lyrics just don't make any sense to me.
So today I will be talking about my top 80s songs. These songs hold a special place in my heart because I listen to them multiple times within a year and they are attached with some sweet memories back when I was young.
The first song is ’Tulsa Time by Don Williams’.
This song hit the billboard in 1980 is a country song that literally depicts the warning that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side in life. You might think things are bad from your side of life but it is actually terrible on the other side of life. For me, this song helps me reflect on how my life is good regardless of life challenges. Count your blessings one by one then you will see how fortunate you are.
This song reminds me of the time my late dad and I would go to the mechanics together. This song always played on his stereo with other of his jams. Afterwards the time spent at the mechanic, we would branch to a barbecue house and get barbecued lamb. Oh those moments are so precious to me, that I wish I could relive them but that is not possible.
’Time After Time’ and ’Girls Just Want Have Fun by Cyndi Lauper’ is a pop/ soft rock song that was produced in 1983. I remember these songs were nominated for the Grammy awards and were hitting the top 100 songs on the billboard.
Everywhere I went, these songs were always played. It was the first song I had on my little music player pod, a gift from my late dad. I always have my pod with me in school and during break just use it to pass time. Those memories are wonderful and I can't forget them. They make up my early twenties years back then.
’Never Gonna Give You Up’ by Rick Astley, released in 1987.
This song has a funny memory attached to it because this song got me in trouble with my parents. I got to listen to this song for the first time when my first boyfriend just asked me to be his girlfriend. He saved the song on a radio cassette tape and then packed it with some chocolates and a romantic letter for me. He gave me this package at school and when I brought it home, I got in TROUBLE with my parents. I was disciplined that my body was sore the following day. Looking back at this memory makes me laugh a lot.
Listening to all these songs again brings back these fond memories and just makes me get more attached to oldies songs. Oldies songs will always be the best. I still have other songs I would love to talk about but for today I decided to go with these songs. All these, reminds me of when life was simple, easy, great, and memorable. Now, it is not like before, things have changed.

Songs are great embodiments of memories. For some reason I seem to lean towards Don William's "tulsa times." Might just give his songs a try 🤔
