House Of Dragon (2022) || Series Review.

IMG_20240306_134849.jpg

Since 2022, I have been wanting to see this series but never got the chance and most importantly, I didn't want to die of suspense while waiting for the next episode to be aired. If you know well, I prefer to watch the series all at once, I hate the wait. It could kill me if the series is too interesting and intriguing.

I've been looking forward to House of the Dragon since the spin-off was first announced and I can say now that I have finally watched it that the wait was worth it. It was an amazing experience for me, I enjoyed it, it was fun and the time intriguing. I couldn't stop, I continued nonstop until I finished it. Although it is not as interesting as Game Of Thrones, it is one of the best TV shows I have seen this year so far. I hope to see more.

’House Of Dragon (2022)’ is a fantasy drama that was distributed by HBO and was created by George R. R. Martin and Ryan Condal. It is popularly known as the prequel to Game of Thrones (2011–2019), which is the second television series in the A Song of Ice and Fire franchise by Martin.

This spin-off series is based on the book Fire & Blood, which is set 200 years before Daenerys was born. It explains all that happened before and also traced the family line of Daenerys. This show starred Matt Smith, Emma D'Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Rhys Fans, Fabien Frankel, Graham McTavish, Fabien Frankel, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Ewan Mitchell, Harry Collette, and Tom Glynn-Carney.

For this review, I will try as much as possible to avoid spoilers and not talk about what happens in the show because there are some people out there like me who are yet to watch this series.

My Review And Rating.

This show is super interesting for me. I enjoyed every bit of it. I had to finish watching it all at once, no breaks. However, this series can't be compared to Game of Thrones. Is it the action, no. Is it the violence, no. Is it the kills, No. It's a sexual scene, No! But still this show has its perks here and there hidden within each episode that comes unexpectedly and furthermore hikes the interest of the viewers.

The characters of the show were well portrayed, I will give that. Each other with their own personality were easy to connect with emotionally and mentally. Like one could easily detect what is going on in the character's head. Each character was not easily forgettable except for some very few low supporting characters. I think the cast was an amazing selection. Their performance was astounding and amazing. It was believable and realistic. All the characters were not perfect, they all had their weaknesses, strengths and flaws (they were all messed up).

Do I have favorite characters in the show?. I actually do.

Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen

I called him the Crazy and impulsive Prince. He is fierce, and ruthless. He is a very unpredictable character that his next move or behavior can't be predicted. He is a fantastic dragon rider who wields the Valyrian steel sword. I love his character so much and I am rooting for him. I love his character because I see a little bit of myself in him. Matt’s performance was exceptional.

Emma D'Arcy and Milly Alcock as Princess / Queen Rhaenyra.

These two actors put up an amazing performance for their role. Milly was absolutely rigid and head strong but when she got old and was replaced with Emma, she grew mama soft but still she stole the spotlight. I love both of them as Rhaenyra. They were perfect for the role.

The plot was well written. I love how the history before the time of Queen Daenerys was explained, how the family bloodlines, tree and history were connected. The back stories were fully fleshed out which provided more story on characters that are yet to be featured. As the plot was written, it was also full of nostalgia from GOT to make it easier for the audience to follow through and flow well with the story that was being told.

The cinematography, effects and CGI were amazing. The dragon was fierce and rugged. The wardrobe was excellent. The scene arrangements was good, the stunts great, there was no much gore or bloody scenes but there lots of shocking scenes that left me speechless. However, the night scenes were terribly lacking proper lighting because I could hardly see what was going on during the night scenes. I hope this flaw is fix in the next season.

Rating this series, I will give it 8 out of 10 stars. It was entertaining, thrilling, interesting and I am pleased with the production. I am nxiously waiting for the next season which will premiere during summer.

I can't say that I relate as I never followed the GOT series. Nice to know that it isn't a spin-off that would piss off GOT fans. Is there a new spin-off other than this?

It is not to late to follow the series now. There is another spin-off in the works, yet to be announced but there is a second season of this one coming up by summer this year. Thank you for visiting and reading my review. I appreciate your time here.

We'll see if that's ever going to happen. The first episode didn't quite grab me when I first watched it years ago. Maybe I'll see it differently now.

I don't know if I can bring myself to watch this prequel. I only saw three seasons of GOT and loved Daenerys character and her dragons. This spin-off is a great idea to know more about her origin and how they lost the iron throne in the first place. Also the signature white-blond hair of the house of Targaryen always fascinates me, hehe. A well-written review! Well done!

Aah, I think you can still watch this spin-off and through with it regardless that you did finish GOT. House of Targaryen got strong gene haha, the signature is unavoidable. Thank you for the visit. I appreciate your comment and support.
