High Potential (2024) || Tv Series Review.

(Edited)

A couple of days ago, I was looking for a good thriller/crime film to watch. I almost gave up on my search because I was looking for something fresh, new and different. Then I came across this TV series. The preview story drew me in immediately and began to start watching without even watching the trailer. All I can say about this series is that I am happy I selected it.

At first, when I saw this series, I thought it would be a crime comedy from the outlook, the plot and the cast, but it is not. It is a very decent / old school crime drama that can be safely watched with your family on a good weekend. Even the kids can join. There are no profanity, nudes, sexual scenes or high violence. It is just perfect for the family and for any age.

You see, ”High Potential” is a very series that I wish Hollywood would produce more of it instead of reboots of old movies, badly scripted films, or clichés films. Unfortunately, we don't know if this amazing tv show will be renewed for another season. It is promising and has the potential to run for many seasons if the quality is not watered down by the producers and creator.

”High Potential” is a drama series that is based on the famous 2021 French television series HPI that is a comedy crime. It was created by Drew Goddard for ABC with seven episodes. It starred Kaitlin Olson, Daniel Sunjata, Judy Reyes, Javicia Leslie, Deniz Akdeniz, Amirah J, Matthew Lamb, Garret Dillahunt, and JD Pardo.

As I review this show, I will try to avoid spoilers.

Starting from the first episode of this show we are introduced to Morgan who is a single mother of three, a janitor at the LAPD, and a woman with a very unique mind. Morgan went in for her job as Janitor to clean the LAPD offices before work starts by morning. During her cleaning section, one could tell she works and have fun at the same time.

As she was working, she accidentally knocked down a box of evidence from a table. This box contained pictures, information and evidence of an ongoing case. As Morgan attempted to arrange back her mess, her unique mind picked up a flaw in the sequence arrangements of the evidence and pictures. Being who she is, correct this flaw by adjusting it on the crime board.

The next morning, the police officers discovered did something to their crime board and she was invited to the station for that. Unfortunately, when something valuable decides to shine no smoke or darkness can cover it up. Morgan was invited to solve the ongoing crime case with them. Will the case be solved? Was she right or wrong? What is so unique about her mind?

My Review And Rating.

High Potential is a different kind of crime drama that is so good it draws you in right from the first episode and takes you on a ride of originality and a fresh view into the crime genre. I really enjoyed this show. It has become one of the shows I will always remember from time to time.

What Impressed Me About This Show

The first thing that impressed me was the first episode. You would think this show will fall below your expectations because of the outlook, plot and cast, but the first episode alone is a magnet. It was obvious that a good amount of work was invested the producing of the first episode. The first was made with a very captivating intro, and ending wad kind of like a cliffhanger. This made immediately jump into other episodes without questions.

I love how the plot was written in a very intriguing way. You would think you have got each episode figure but then towards the end you are met with unexpected endings and resolutions. There was great twist throughout all the episodes of this show. The mystery could make you question our we humans tend to hide behind many faces or mask. Every character suspect in each episode had a strong and relatable motive behind their crimes. This further reveals darkness in humanity.

Also, the themes that were explore in this shows were all good and very relatable. We have family dynamics, justice, deceit, betrayal, and the law. In this show, we got to understand Morgan and her kids, we got to understand the backstories of all her co-workers and then we got see how the get to solve each case open minded without judgement.

Lastly, I was deeply impressed with the performance of the cast especially Kaitlin Olson. She was the star of the show and she carried her role like a champ. I was always excited to see her in the next episode. I lover mannerism all throughout the show. Loved her dark humor and how her unique mind works. The rest of the supporting characters were good and very convincing.

The actor that made me actually want to watch this show was Judy Reyes. This woman won my heart over in her role as Zoila Diaz in Devious Maids Tv Series. She was fantastic here and her presence indeed noticeable regardless of the fact that screen appearance was limited because of her role.

Rating this movie, I will give it 8.8 out 10 stars. I hope and wish this show is renewed for another season because I will definitely be excited to see it. I will recommend this show to our crime drama lovers.

Your review was so good that I almost read it twice without realizing there’s some duplication. I’m sure it’s a mistake right?
