If you love reading John Grisham's books then you need to get your hands on one of Matthew Quirk books. I love John Grisham, I enjoy reading his work and all his books always leave you with unforgettable experiences and feelings.

The first time I came across Matthew Quirk work was when I watched a TV series titled ’Night Agent’. This show was adapted from ’Matthew Quirk’s The Night Agent’ book. After watching the series I was so curious that I immediately looked for the book to read and it was not a waste of time. It was worth reading. It was the first book of Quirk’s that I read and now I think I am addicted to his work.

Quirk and Grisham all write books the same genres. So if you enjoy Grisham’s work then you must definitely check Matthew Quirk’s works. His works are amazing and thrilling but still Grisham comes on top of the list for me.

Now let's talk about ’Hour Of The Assassin’ by Matthew Quirk. This book is a political conspiracy thriller and mystery that was first published in March 2020. The author is an American journalist who has spent 5 years reporting on crime, terrorism, international gangs in The Atlantic. From this experience, it is clear that Quirk knows what he is doing when publishes his books.

Brief Synopsis Of The Book

’Hour Of The Assassin’, like I said earlier, it is a political conspiracy thriller and mystery that revolves around Nick Averose who is a former Secret Service agent that was framed during his latest assignment to assess the security protocol surrounding the home of the former CIA director, Malcolm Widener at DC. This assignment was to make sure that Widener’s security was updated and secure.

Unfortunately, while Nick was still there, having a thoughtful conversation with Widener, intruders from an unknown source badged into Widener’s compound. With stealth precision and tactical movements, Malcolm Widener was killed right under Nick’s nose.

However, when this team found out Nick was in the premises, they began to hunt him down to kill him. It wasn't successful as Nick took out all his enemies quietly. Afterwards, Nick began to run for his life because it was evident that a lot of evidence such as his personal throw knife, his later security test was gone and then his DNA was all over the crime scene. Will Nick be able to clear his name? And who killed Malcolm Widener?

My Review And Rating.

This book got me hooked right from first line up till the end. I didn't want to take break or sleep. I lost a night of sleep for this book and I tell it was very worth it because the ending was so thrilling that I was on the edge of my seat.

I say Matthew Quirk did an amazing job with this book. The storyline, the characters, the mystery surrounding the story, the suspense, the conspiracies, the action and the unexpected twists and turns. This book made my heart race from the start to finish. I can't wait to pick another Quirk’s work to read and devour.

I love how twisted the plot structure is and the mystery. Quirk took his time to introduce us to the main character of the book. Not long, the story began to pick up the pace when our main is sent on a security system test. From there the pacing just got better as I turned each page. The plot was well written and systematically developed. The meticulous narrative technique was fantastic, the action scenes were all described like a procedure from the third person (writer's View) and sometimes from the main character, Nick Averose.

The characters of this book were well built. They were not attached to the story but at the same time, they all made their unforgettable impact. Though there were no background story about some character, they were still fully fleshed out. Since this book is a standalone, it would be stressful have the background story on each of the characters.

The ending was unexpected and I was kind of disappointed because, I still didn't know who framed Nick but from the information Nick had gather, a finger was pointed at the source of the problem. Despite this, knowledge, it was like loop after loop. All the players in this story were not predictable and their move, I couldn't decipher.

Also be warned, this novel has a little bit but just the right amount of suspense, stakes, violence and gore. The kills were well described. This book’s violence is not extreme. Everything about this story revolves around one strong theme, betrayal.

Rating this book, I will give it 4 out of 5 stars. It was an amazing read, thrilling, intriguing, and it was a fun read for me. I enjoyed it. I would recommend this book to lovers of political fiction, conspiracies and thriller. If you into any of these, I urge you to explore Matthew Quirk’s works.
