A Classic Statham Film. A Working Man (2025) || Movie Review.

This movie is a controversial movie with more negative reviews than positive reviews. I think people are just exhausted with the repetition of plots over and over again. People are familiar with the routine to the extent that they already subconsciously predicted how a movie will end and what the storyline entails. They already know if the movie will be intriguing or not.
I guess we all miss when script and plot writers do excellent world building and produce intriguing storylines that keep the audience in suspense awaiting the end of the story on the edge of their seats.
As you all know, Jason Statham is one of my favorite actors. I try not to miss his films. Though for this movie, Jason Statham was just being his usual self. He is always in a vengeance vibe movie, an equaliser vibe and John Wick vibe. Hence why the audience were not really impressed with this. I guess his fans want to see Jason step into a totally different role. I also want to see that.

About The Plot.

This movie started by introducing us to the main character Levon Cade (Jason Statham) who is an ex-Royal Marine, who works as a construction guy for the Gracia family construction company. However, his relationship with the Gracia family is quite close that they kind of consider him as a family friend. Apart from working as a construction guy, Cade also is battling with gaining the custody of his daughter Merry. This happened after she committed sucide which led to Cade’s father-in-law getting custody of his daughter.

Joe Gracia, his wife Carla and his daughter Jenny all run the company specifically with her at the forefront. On a fateful night, Jenny told her parents that she wanted to go out with friends to celebrate a milestone in her life. Her parents were at first skeptical about it but after much persuasion from her, they agreed to make her happy. So she eventually went out that night with her friends. The night was going well, she was having fun with her friends drinking and dancing.

However, as the night grew older, Jenny drink was laced with drugs by the bartender and then she was kidnapped and taken away by Russian traffickers Viper and Artemis. Her parents were devastated and quickly filed a missing person report to the police but no good news came from the police.Desperate to find their daughter, Jenny’s parents spoke and pleaded with Cade to help find their daughter with a sum of money for compensation. Cade refused saying he didn't want to go back to his military but considering his daughter's custody case he decided to help. Will Cade find Jenny? And will she be found in one piece?
My Review And Rating.
This movie was a simple watch. To be honest, I enjoyed it and it was refreshing just sitting and watching Statham doing his thing.
This movie was directed by the same directors of The Beekeeper. From the start of this movie you would see some similarities. Also if you have seen Taken you would know what I am talking about. However, this movie is more serious than The Beekeeper and I think what spiced it up was the involvement of the Russian mob which I still feel that if that aspect was fully explored, this movie would be exhilarating and gory.
A Working Man is a movie of guilty pleasures all through. If you are true fan of Jason this movie would simply be nostalgic for you as it brings back good memories of his previous movies like, Wrath of Man, The Beekeeper, Homefront and so on. It was interesting, thrilling and enjoyable. I had some moments of laughter due to Jason's mannerism and his accent. I couldn't help it.
The plot was well written but just that the storyline is similar to the movie Taken. I love the involvement of the Russian mob. I think it spiced up the whole plot and with this aspect we were able to experience a little tension, suspense and some plot twist. For me, I wish the Russian mob were allowed to actually be their violent self, probably the movie would have been more exhilarating and challenging for Jason like I mentioned earlier.Though at the second act the tempo of the movie was a bit slow but then things kicked up at the beginning of the third act.
The cast were good but as usual, Jason Statham shouldered the whole cast and movie. The cinematography was fantastic. Great fighting scenes. I enjoyed the close-up shots of some action scenes. The fighting scenes were well shot. The whole thing I didn't like about this movie was the fact that Jenny had it in her to fight when Jason finally found her which took off the attention from Jason that we had from the start of the exhilarating search. For me it was annoying. I don't know why, but I wasn't amazed at all.
Rating this movie, I will give it 7.5 out of 10 stars. It was nice, nostalgic, interesting and fun to watch. I enjoyed it and the ending was worth it. All loose ends were resolved properly. It is a movie that can be enjoyed during a family time. Have you seen this movie? How was it for you?
