¡Hola Chicos!
Continuando con la historia de lo que fue este taller de arte con plastilina al que fui invitada por parte de las personas del centro comercial Costa mall.
Como les contaba en el post anterior, habíamos pautado que la hora de inicio sería a las 3 de la tarde y yo estaba en el centro comercial desde la 1:30 aproximadamente, pues me gusta ser puntual con las actividades a las que asisto.
Mi hijo y yo para hacer tiempo nos comimos un helado pero al terminarlo quedamos sin hacer nada, así que decidimos caminar un poco para seguir esperando que llegara la chica que nos iba a dar los materiales para trabajar.
El ambiente en el centro comercial se sentía algo muerto y yo, luego de tanta espera me estaba desanimando un poco.

Continuing with the story of this clay art workshop I was invited to by the people at Costa Mall.
As I mentioned in the previous post, we had scheduled the start time for 3:00 PM, and I had been at the mall since about 1:30 PM, as I like to be punctual for the activities I attend.
To kill time, my son and I ate ice cream, but after finishing it, we had nothing to do, so we decided to walk around a bit while we waited for the girl who was going to give us the materials.
The atmosphere in the mall felt a bit dead, and after waiting so long, I was getting a little discouraged.
En nuestra caminata nos encontramos con una tienda de muebles y artículos para el hogar. Quise entrar porque la verdad me gustaría en un futuro cercano tener unos nuevos muebles que sean cómodos y amplios para poder pasar nuestras tardes y momentos en familia.
Sentí curiosidad por los precios, pues en ningún lado se observaba algún cartel que indicara el costo. Un chico se acercó y me comentó que uno de los juegos de sala por los que pregunté costaban 1200$.
La verdad no sé si pagaría algo así por un juego de muebles, preferiría ver en otros sitios, pues a lo mejor por ser una tienda de un centro comercial, estarían elevando los costos.
Seguí explorando un poco la tienda y luego cuando no tuvimos más que ver seguimos nuestro recorrido.
During our walk, we came across a furniture and home goods store. I wanted to go in because I'd really like to get some new, comfortable, and spacious furniture in the near future so we can spend our afternoons and family time there.
I was curious about the prices, since there weren't any signs anywhere indicating the cost. A young man approached me and told me that one of the living room sets I'd asked about cost $1200.
I honestly don't know if I'd pay that much for a furniture set. I'd prefer to look elsewhere, since maybe because it's a store in a shopping mall, they're inflating the prices.
I continued exploring the store a bit, and then, when we had nothing more to see, we continued on our way.
En este punto me di cuenta que el centro comercial esta en aún más decadencia que en nuestra última visita. Muchos negocios cerraron, incluso algunos que pensaba que eran exitosos pues tenían bastante tiempo funcionando.
Pero no amigos, la verdad es que la baja afluencia de personas en el centro comercial ha llevado a quiebra a muchos de estos locales, por lo que las personas no se sentirían realmente motivadas a visitarlo, porque para qué van a ir si no hay prácticamente nada.
En ese punto y no es por ser pesimista, sentí que la actividad no se daría de la mejor manera, pero es porque no veía casi personas, muy pocos niños, y la actividad iba dirigida a ellos.
At this point, I realized the mall was in even more decline than on our last visit. Many businesses had closed, including some I thought were successful because they'd been around for quite some time.
But no, friends, the truth is that the low foot traffic at the mall has driven many of these businesses out of business, so people wouldn't really be motivated to visit. Why go if there's practically nothing there?
At that point, and not to be pessimistic, I felt the event wouldn't go very well, but that's because I saw hardly any people, very few children, and the event was geared toward them.
La chica aún no aparecía y ya eran casi las 4 de la tarde. Aprovechamos el tiempo para repartir algunos folletos de nuestro centro artístico a las personas que iban pasando. Aproveché de enseñarle a mi hijo la forma de hacerlo, así iba perdiendo un poco la pena.
Luego por fin nos avisaron que había llegado la chica y nos fuimos a buscar los materiales y luego de varios minutos son colocamos en el lugar.
La afluencia de personas era muy poca, a pesar de ser la zona más concurrida del centro comercial.
The girl still hadn't arrived, and it was almost 4 p.m. We used the time to hand out some flyers for our art center to passersby. I took the opportunity to show my son how to do it, helping him overcome his shyness.
Then we were finally told that the girl had arrived, and we went to get our materials. After several minutes, we set up our spot.
There were very few people around, despite it being the busiest area of the mall.
No teníamos música para amenizar el momento ni tampoco alguien que nos ayudara a atraer el público por lo que nos tocó actuar con las herramientas que teníamos.
Logramos convencer dos niñitos que participaran, pero fue algo medio forzado pues a pesar de que ellos se disfrutaron el momento, su mamá llegó a la mitad de su proceso para decir que ya se iban.
Así que con mi ayuda lograron al menos terminar y se fueron. Al rato los vi caminando cerca nuevamente y no llevaban sus trabajos, por lo que asumí que los habían botado. 😔
Me sentí triste no lo voy a negar, pero es parte del proceso. Yo había cumplido con mi parte y lo que hicieran después no lo podía controlar.
Mi hijo y yo estuvimos haciendo un poco de la actividad y al terminar decidimos recoger todo para irnos.
We didn't have any music to liven things up, nor anyone to help us attract an audience, so we had to make do with what we had.
We managed to convince two little boys to participate, but it felt a bit forced. Even though they seemed to enjoy it, their mother arrived halfway through and said they were leaving.
So, with my help, they at least managed to finish and left. A little while later, I saw them walking nearby again, and they weren't carrying their projects, so I assumed they'd thrown them away. 😔
I felt sad, I won't deny it, but it's part of the process. I had done my part, and what they did afterward was beyond my control.
My son and I did a little bit of the activity, and when we finished, we decided to pack everything up and leave.
En lo que esperábamos que apareciera de nuevo la chica nos tomamos algunas fotos y ya luego de hacerle entrega de los materiales nos retiramos a casa.
No todas las experiencias tienen que ser las mejores, en este caso la actividad no dio los frutos que se esperaban, no tuvimos casi participantes pero de esta experiencia se aprendieron varias cosas importantes.
Y es que las vivencias nos enseñan siempre, y esta no fue la excepción. Nos queda el momento que compartimos, algunos materiales que nos regalaron y la experiencia que servirá para próximos talleres. ♥
While we waited for the girl to reappear, we took some photos, and after handing over the materials, we headed home.
Not all experiences have to be the best. In this case, the activity didn't yield the results we expected; we had hardly any participants. However, we learned several important things from this experience.
Experiences always teach us, and this was no exception. We're left with the moment we shared, some of the materials we received, and the experience, which will be useful for future workshops. ♥
