Hey, friend, Dust It off [Eng-Esp]
Hello #music friends. It is a pleasant revelation to discover this community through #Ecency.
In my opinion, the ideal of every song is to have a memorable melody, combined with suggestive lyrics that awaken our deepest feelings.
I had this double feeling when I discovered 'Dust it off', by the folk rock duo The Dø.
The song is part of the soundtrack of the excellent feature film 'I origin', which I recommend to all #cinetv and #moviestvshows cinephiles, and especially to the writers @rowelborges, @maylink and @restaurador, who appreciate the transcendent, the metaphysical.
The music of 'Dust it off' reinforces the intensity of the film scene (a loving reunion).
Later, when I looked up the full lyrics of the song, I was fascinated. It has an uncommon beauty, as it speaks of freeing oneself from the dust, ashes, prejudices and fears that stop the flight of the soul and prevent it from moving forward. One of the most delicate details suggests that your life is unique, unrepeatable, that no one can live it like you, and that it is up to you to write your own book, to start from amazement or innocence at every moment:
Nothing has been done before
It's the most virgin dress
you could possibly wear
Furthermore, clinging to the past is not useful:
Don't be tempted to look back
And that your mistakes should not paralyze you, because the time of life constitutes your true wealth, the story you write about yourself, to bequeath to your descendants:
Mess it up, time is up
Hold your memory for a moment
with a blind hand
Write some stories for tomorrow
The ending is resounding because it calls for reconciliation:
Someday miracular spread
will forgive
every cowardly thing that you've done That I've done
Dust it off
But what was particularly original, which moved me to write this post, were the verses:
From the bottle of amnesia
find instructions to salvation...
I don't know if it has happened to you, friends, that we feel blocked, that we can't find solutions, that the decisions we consider seem to end in a dead end. We just can't think of anything to take the next step.
But, in my experience, I have followed mental threads from a single word, a sign, an object, and then, the "amnesia", the blockage, the "nonsense" has illuminated very interesting ideas that lead me to reconcile myself with the gods.
Furthermore, in 'Dust it off', the contrast between the peaceful melody and the sequence of imperative verbs: keep - Mess it up - hold - write - find - Don't be tempted, (coupled with its double quality, sound and poetic), give this piece a very appreciable beauty.
I invite you to enjoy the song and be moved:
