THE ROLES OF ELDERS...

After so many years of existence, an elder must have gathered so many experiences. It is on that basis that the poplar African adage "what an elder sees while sitting cannot be seen by a child even when he claims an Iroko tree" holds. Though they are old, but they are meant to support the younger ones with the wisdom they must have gathered from their years of existence. Every family and even larger organisations needs elderly support.

Here are some importance of elders in the family👇

Elders are like guidian angels to the family

It doesn't matter how much progress they made in their time, every of their life expirence is a lesson to the younger ones. It is with these experiences that they are able to mentor the younger ones in the family, offering them advises and mentorship for all phases of life. No matter of how smart or intelligent an individual is, he or must learn to pay hid to the wisdom of the elders, by doing that he or she can avoid repeating their mistakes. Another important task of elders is that they help preserve family histories and way of life. The older you become the more knowledge you carry with you from the past, elders are always in best position to know what was as well as how things were being done.

Elders are meant to foster unity among family members

In most cases the best persons to bring the family together are the elderly ones, they are in the best position to acknowledge extended family members and to bring them together. In some cases they are even able to help connect family members from different generations, they always know the family better than the younger ones and their importance cannot be overemphasized.

Elders provide emotional support for the younger ones

Most elders are in their retirement stage and they have all the time in the world to give emotional support to who ever is in need of it. They are always there to support berifed family members, heart broken and even frustrated ones. The knowledge they must have gathered from life gives them enough wisdom to speak comforting words to who ever might need it. There shoulders are always available to be lained on.

Elders provide support through their past archivements

After so many years of hard work, many elders leave legacies behind. Though these are the results of their past efforts but they are also financial support to the younger ones. With these legacies they provide strong foundation for the younger ones thereby making life easier for them. Having acquired much business experience they are also in the best place to give financial advice to the younger ones.

Elders can at some point serve as caregivers

Though they themselves need care, but there are cases where they serve as perfect care giver to the children. After retirement most elders are restricted to their homes and bringing the children around can sometimes contribute to their happiness. They in fact take care of the children better than their imidiate parents. Leaving the children with their grandparents can sometimes relieve parents of some of their responsibilities while they go about other activities.

Conclusion

Elders are like bedrocks to families and removing them is same as pulling off the foundation. It is of great importance then that we respect them as well as listen to the words of wisdom coming from their lives experiences. If you must be an experienced elder in future, you must gather as much knowledge as possible from the elders before you. And lastly, never forget to celebrate the elders around you.
