There are so many benefits associated with having a good knowledge of music and teaching music in school will certainly help one to understand music better. I have been opportuned to teach music in a school once and I understand the impact music have on children better. Teach music to a child and you will help boost the entire development of that child.

In a special way, I appreciate the community for choosing this amazing topic for this week's afroinleo initiative. Over here in Nigeria we need as much sensitisation as possible on the need for music in schools, parents most importantly need to understand how much music can help growing children. It is on this note that I will be outlining some of the impact of music on growing children.

THE IMPACT OF MUSIC ON CHILDREN

• Music and social development of children
  Practicing music in schools have a way of building children's communication skills, team spirit and the ability cooperation. Musical activities like playing of instruments as a team, singing together and many others have a way of enabling children with communication and social skills. School is no doubt the best place for children to learn and do music together.

• Music helps train Children's emotion
  The effect of music on the brain is is doubt exceptional, children are not left out this respect. Teaching music will no doubt help children understand and manage their emotions, it in fact help them understand themselves and their personality better.

• Music help children to uncover their creativity skills
  Having a good knowledge of music can help children uncover their potentials, it can help them become really creative. One of the qualities of a good musician is no doubt creativity and when a child aquire such characteristic, it will no doubt be of great help to him or her.

• Music help children learn self expression
  When children practice music in school they are most likely going to get opportunity to showcase their musical talents on stage. By performing music either within the school or outside the school, students are given opportunities to learn self expression.

• Music help improve academic performance
  Music education tend to help children improve in their academic endeavours, this is most evidence in the case of maths and reading.

• Music bring about cultural enhancement
  Practicing music from diverse culture have a way of instilling information about different cultures in the mind of students. Music in all have a way of bringing about cultural enhancement, it can also help students understand other languages that are not originally theirs.

• Music is simply fun
  Participating in musical can means of having fun for children. It can bring about a certain level of happiness to the mind of a child and it absolutely contributes to the overall well being of that child.

There are so much more to say about the importance of music in schools and in the life of growing children but we shall be on these few.
