REVOLUTIONIZATION OF COMMUNICATION

Sometimes, I imagine how my grandfather would have felt if the advancements that have become commonplace in this generation were revealed to him. He most likely would not have believed the possibility of what was to come, but here we are; technology keeps advancing at the speed of light.

Advancements in technology have not only improved efficiency in work, but have also made things that were formerly considered impossible become possible. Imagine telling a man from the 1950s that there would come a time when he could not only speak with his relatives in a distant country but also see them and their activities through video. They would probably think you were speaking of witchcraft; it would no doubt sound absolutely impossible, but here we are.

Among all the things that technological advancements have brought, communication and its constant development are what interest me the most. So far, the only thing that has not been made possible is physical contact with the person you are communicating with. The constant advancement has no doubt solved lots of problems.

Inasmuch as I do not underestimate the importance of other grand inventions, some of which have made communication possible, there is a special reason why communication-related technological advancements interest me the most. For many reasons, I feel it is the only aspect of technology that greatly impacts humanity, but only on one condition: if used rightly.

While I was undergoing my tertiary education, I once helped a friend who could not get home early enough deliver a package to his mother. On meeting her, the woman was so emotional about not having seen her son in months that she cried profusely. I was marveled at how people can become emotional about being away from their loved ones. The funniest thing about the incident is the fact that it had only been six to eight months, and that got me thinking.

Have you ever imagined how a mother who has not been in touch with her child for years feels each time the thought comes to her mind? Now, imagine how she would feel if she had not been able to communicate with that child of hers throughout the whole time. Our ancestors, no doubt, had to deal with that, but advancements in technology have given us the privilege to stay in touch better. It has given us the privilege to feel the presence of our loved ones better, even in their absence.

The irony of this whole thing is the fact that the same technology that has improved well enough to help us connect with each other better ends up driving us apart. We have become so connected that we now have a whole wide world to connect with, forgetting our immediate loved ones. The wonderful benefits of information-related technological advancements are only experienced when they are properly utilised. Make sure you check up on your loved ones; never become so connected with the world that you forget your own little circle. The main reason behind information is to remain connected; otherwise, it is no longer of any importance.

Thank you so much for reading through to the end. I sincerely appreciate it. Once again, check up on your distant loved ones today. One Love✌️
