MY MUSICAL LIFE...

Currently, what songs do you listen to and why? What songs or musicians would you also recommend to people looking to elevate their playlist.

I have always loved music right from a very tender age. My love for music was probably defined by my stay with a musician aunt of mine, but I doubt that's just the reason. I craved music so much that I could seize any opportunity to do it, bad enough I never got as much opportunity as I should have. As I would always say, music is an integral part of my being. I might be wrong though, but that's what I think. Speaking of the kind of music I love the most, my love for music cannot really be said to be genre specific, that notwithstanding, different style of music could be used to define my different live stages.

Of course, there are specific styles of music I love listening to the most. But just I already stated, different stages of my life for some reason craved for a specific style of music the most. I do not whether to refer to it as growth, but it is certainly change. If I am to judge, my musical journey official began from when I first came to Port Harcourt to stay with my Parents. At that tender stage (I was just nine), the music I loved was defined by those I hear around me. The likes of Chinyere Udoma, Father Nbaka, Gozie Okeke and other typical Igbo gospel artist became my favourite. At the age of 12 to 15, I already owned a Java phone. At this point my musical life was being defined by my own self, I downloaded the music that sound pleasing to my ears and listened to which ever music I wished.

As a teenage boy, I preferred the likes of Westlife, Celine Dion and even the like of Enya. I also enjoyed Dolly Parton, Don Williams and few other country music. Gradually I started realizing I preferred calm and easy going music the more. I latter found the likes of Frank Edward, Don Moen and Hillsong band interesting. They became my favourite gospel artist. At this stage of my life, I hated most local music. I will always be like Nigeria (or Afro) music no dey sweet. I simply loved them calm and most Afro music of the time was not giving me what I wanted.

Now let's get to me of today. The style of music I now prefer is characterized by my stay in Ibadan. There I met amazing musicians, but most importantly, I all of a sudden started preferring Afro music to every other genre that there is. The likes of Simi, Adukunle Gold, Johnny Drill, Fireboy and many others started sounding appealing to me. In all though, I never stopped preferring easy going music. But this time, a little Afro percussion wouldn't be too much. My love for Afro music obviously came to being as a result of the kind of music I practiced while in Ibadan. These days, I now listen to as much Afro genre as you can imagine.

Since I fell in love with Afro music, I have always loved Simi. She have got the voice. Her unique voice made me want to listen to every of her release. Though I have found other lovers, but she remains exceptional. When I was still in Ibadan, I could listen to her all day without getting tired. Though Simi remains my favourite musician but I have got so many other Afro genre that I now fancy. I have gradually developed great love for contemporary high-life, Afro-Jazz, easy going Afro-pop and so many others. The likes of Jonny drill who knows how to perfectly fuss Afro into R&B/Soul have also become my favourite. Recently I have also discovered the crazy "Caveman", these guys practically invented their own music genre (Afro Fusion). They have a way of making an ordinary highlife sound heavenly, they are probably the most talented Afro musicians I have ever encountered. In all, Afro remains my style of music. Not all Afro though, the easy and soft going ones.

I remain @ernesto6402 and I appreciate you in a very special way for making out time to read through my post. One love✌️

You are absolutely correct @imaculate50, music contribute a lot to our growth. Ibadan might not be the most lively city in Nigeria but it is really an amazing City. The Fuji and Juju vibes is nothing like any other.

I think the only people I can recognize here is Don Moen and Hillsong. There’s no way you would hear their songs and just pass by or not sing along.
