MY MUSICAL JOURNEY...
My earliest musical stage is the one I had with my late aunty. This very aunty of mine was a musician to a certain extent even though she no blow. Apart from being my favorite aunty, she inspired me a lot musically. She has an amazing voice and I simply wanted to be like her, to a certain extent I took her as my mentor. I soon moved ahead that stage of life as traveled to Port Harcourt and started living with my parents at the age of nine.
My earliest days in Port Harcourt were characterized by the kind of music I heard around me, I simply choose my favorites from the music that were being played around. It was as far as 2007 and the most played Christian music then were the likes of Gozie Okeke, Chinwere Udoma and Father Nbaka. Those were the songs that were played in my house as my mother will never play any music other than Christian music. My father on the other hand will occasionally play the likes of Las Ekwueme [who became popular recently], Oliva De Coque, Osadebe, Oriental Brothers, Ras Kimono and some others. I could remember singing most of Ras Kimono's songs off hands as a kid. I also got to encounter Fela Kuti from our next door neighbor who played his song and I loved him, his songs just sounded good to me and I sang along. My dream to become like my aunty were no longer as prominent as they were then, I simply enjoyed the song I heard around. I never had the opportunity to hear many of those songs while I was with my aunty, hearing them now was like a shift from what use to be.
The next milestone in my musical journey was characterized by my first smartphone phone. At the age of about 14, I got my first smartphone and that obviously gave me the opportunity to expand my playlist. I instantly graduated from listening to just the music that are played around me, I gained the opportunity to explore. For the world of Gospel music, Don Mone, Hillsong, Buchi, Samsong and Franck Edward became my favourite. I also had the opportunity to explore other genres of music like blues, Countries and some categories of R&B. As a matter of fact, the like of Dolly Parton, Don Williams, Westlife, Celine Dion and so many others became my favorite.
All the while, my dreams of becoming like my musician aunty were no longer anywhere to be found, I simply wanted to explore and listen to many of the good music that there is. Joining my church choir along side the gentle seraph choral group got me back on track. At the age of about 18 I joined a choir for the first time in my life. I got to realize how helpful those music I have been listening to were to me in my earliest days as a chorister. I was simply an exceptional chorister, I sang so well that the fact that I was a novice was almost not noticed. I could remember my musical director complaining to Mark my friend who brought me into gentle seraph that he does not need novices, funny enough that topic was never revisited as I appeared not to be one even though I was. Under the umbrella of gentle seraph I was opportune to perform as a chorister in different cities of the country.
The last stage of my musical journey began with my days in the university, there I got to understand and discover myself more. Apart from developing my keyboard skills which was newly learnt, I had the opportunity to encounter amazing guys and learnt how to play the saxophone. The like of @ksam and @magicfingerz were strongly part of this musical stage of mine. There are lots of things to say about this stage but I will be summarizing it as my stage of musical discovery. It is the most impactful stage of my musical life.
My present musical stage is yet to be characterized, but I must not fail to mention my experience with "the voice of the lord gospel band" during NYSC program which I just concluded recently. Though I served in a rural area but there is noting rural about the voice of the lord gospel band. I met the MD of the band (Mr Samuel) and many other amazing guys who are well grounded musically, their impact in my musical life is one that will never be forgotten.
I am @ernesto6402 and this is just a summary of my musical life. Thank you so much for reading up till the end. One Love✌️
