MY LOVE FOR GENTLE MUSIC
Speaking of a particular song that I hate the most, I have not really been able to single out a particular piece of music. I probably have not paid attention to that, but I certainly have categories of music that I would rather not listen to. I just do not enjoy these genres of music, and I have my reasons. The same way another person will have reasons for disliking my favourite genres; now this is what I am talking about.
I have always been a lover of gentle and easy-going music. This very subgenre of rock just seems too noisy for me. It sounds more like noise-making than music to me, and that is enough reason to completely dislike it; and I do. I actually hate rock in general for the same noisy reason, but heavy metal is a genre that I do not even consider musical. But then, my position on whether it is good or not does not really matter; the fact that people still play and enjoy it negates any general condemnation I might have about it.Considering all of these, I choose not to completely condemn it, even though I hate it.
As much as I know, heavy metal is one of the noisiest musical genres; that alone qualifies it to be near the bottom of my list of favourite musical genres. Maybe if I had paid attention to heavy metal, I would have eventually encountered the most noisy of music, and that would no doubt be my most hated music.
I am one of those who believe that the most interesting music is the least noisy. That does not mean that I do not love percussions, but I prefer them gentle. Sometimes, not really gentle, but at least not noisy. The easy-going Afro genres are no doubt my favourite, but that does not negate the fact that I listen to a vast range of music. I simply believe that the right music is dependent on the mood we are in. No wonder I do not like heavy metal; I guess I have never been in the mood where I have to madly dance to the high, loud current of heavy metal. On the other hand, it probably goes beyond that. The fact that the genre is not a local genre might have contributed to why I hate it the way I do.
I might not really vibe with loud songs, but as an instrumentalist, I play them. In this part of the world, we are used to playing very heavy Makosa and Ariara in churches; these genres of music are fast and sometimes louder than heavy metal. Though I really do not listen to fast Afro Makosa music in the comfort of my home for the same too-noisy reason, I will not say that I do not enjoy playing them as an instrumentalist; and I certainly do not consider them my worst.
In as much as I do not like noisy music, I think the fact that heavy metal is foreign must have contributed to why I hate it the way I do. If it were at least a traditional music of mine, I guess I might have given it a chance. Just like Makosa, it might not have been on the list of my favourites, but it might not have been my worst.
