MY EXPERIENCE IN THE DIGITAL MARKET
I am particularly about the digital market because of my first experience trying to buy from an online vendor. I might be wrong but I guess many people would have experienced something similar to mine. Some of my friends have as a matter of fact told stories of how they were scammed by these online criminals who claimed to be trusted vendors.
It was the case that I was preparing for my NYSC (national youth service corps), I was as a matter of fact urgently in need of a traveling bag. I eventually saw one on Facebook and it looked amazing. Except from my few previous purchases from Jumia, I am really not the type that buys things online. I eventually fell into the trap and it cost me about forty thousand naira. The fake vendor claimed to live in Lagos Nigeria and was suppose to send my purchased goods through a waybill that will arrive in forty eight hours, I am still waiting for that waybill up till date. I tried reaching out to her only to realise that I have been scammed, her line became unavailable all of sudden.
If not for how crafty she was, she would have been able to get to me. Given the stories that have been told about online vendors, I concluded within me that most of them are scammers. Me checking up on this one was suppose to be an examination process, I was suppose to ascertain whether she was fake or not. That notwithstanding, I ended being scammed in the process.
Apart from how convincing her page looked, she was so good that she had convincing evidence of her former successful transactions. It was after getting proves of how well she had formerly delivered that I finally fell for her tricks. I lost forty thousand naira in the process and I think I have learnt my lessons.
After that very experience, I have made a decision to ignore all online vendors. If I must shop online, then it must be from a trusted online store. On that note, Jumia has been a excellent choice. Though Jumia was there then, but the cheapness of the bag coupled with the fact that I was certain about being able to ascertain whether the vendor is fake or not landed me into being scammed. I guess it was for good after all; I have not only experienced, I have also learnt from my experience.
