MY BEST COMPOSITION

It was my first time ever writing a hymn. It was in the year 2019, and I was on my way back to Port Harcourt in a bus, heavy with so much emotional burden. It was like I was pouring out what I would say to myself, or better still, what I am saying to myself. The entire song was written in less than one hour, before going back to my sober and lonely mood. Throughout our whole journey, I might not have spoken to any of the passengers; I was just along, myself and my mini bag.

Era la primera vez que escribía un himno. Era el año 2019, y yo estaba de regreso a Port Harcourt en un autobús, cargado de tantas emociones. Era como si estuviera vertiendo lo que me diría a mí mismo, o mejor aún, lo que me estoy diciendo a mí mismo. La canción entera la escribí en menos de una hora, antes de volver a mi sobrio y solitario estado de ánimo. Durante todo el viaje, puede que no hablara con ninguno de los pasajeros; sólo íbamos yo, mi minibolso y yo.

Be calm my soul: those are powerful words born from a weary soul, and I am happy to have shared it with you today. I did it all with my phone; I was at the time obsessed with the app Maestro, and I played around with it until I had a basic idea of how the music writing stuff works. It is with that basic idea that I wrote not just the song "Be Calm My Soul", but a few others.

Tranquila, alma mía: son palabras poderosas nacidas de un alma cansada, y me alegro de haberlas compartido hoy con vosotros. Lo hice todo con mi teléfono; en aquel momento estaba obsesionado con la aplicación Maestro, y jugué con ella hasta que tuve una idea básica de cómo funciona eso de escribir música. Con esa idea básica escribí no sólo la canción "Be Calm My Soul", sino algunas otras.

At the end of it all, it ended up as a simple hymn with a beautiful message. It also ended up being the best I have ever written. It might not be something too great, but that's my best. The hymn might be simple, but I consider it the best because of the message it conveys, and because of the situation that surrounded the composition.

Al final de todo, acabó siendo un himno sencillo con un mensaje hermoso. También acabó siendo el mejor que he escrito nunca. Puede que no sea algo demasiado grandioso, pero es lo mejor que he escrito. Puede que el himno sea sencillo, pero lo considero el mejor por el mensaje que transmite y por la situación que rodeó la composición.
