If I could cheat death...
I would no doubt love to become immortal if that could ever be possible, but only on the condition that I would not age as I live. It is preferable to die than to face a painful and torturous immortality. So, if immortality could be bought alongside agelessness, I would certainly purchase it - that is, if I could afford it. On the other hand, it is only rational that a world where immortality can be acquired would never exist. The existence of such a world would come with more chaos than we can ever imagine.
Watching movies like Justice League and some Korean dramas that emphasise immortality sometimes makes me imagine myself living an endless life. How powerful I would become, and how the world would revolve around me; plus the fact that the fear of death would completely disappear. Inasmuch as I imagine and sometimes desire such a life, reducing immortality to something that can be acquired by those who can afford it sends a different message. Balance for me would certainly be altered.
Some will become able to live eternally; they will certainly become the everlasting rulers of the universe. Of course, the human person is naturally selfish; they will end up seizing power for themselves, their family, and the few who find favour with them. With time, the selfishness that naturally lies within the human person will creep in, and there will be chaos amongst them. The greatest may never wish to give away power, and the least will continuously strive for power.
This is a summary of what goes on in my head at the imagination of a world where immortality can be acquired - a world that is characterised by two distinct classes. While the mortals remain in the lower class, the immortals and anyone who ever finds themselves in their league operate on a different level. But then, there will never be peace even amongst the immortals. Even with the greater population of mortals being their subordinates, there may never be peace.
Come to think of it now, the major reason why I desire immortality is the fear of death. This fear of death causes me to sometimes wish I could cheat nature, but that certainly can never be. If it were even the case that it could be acquired, I am certain that there are so many others who desire it. Considering the value of what we're talking about, it would certainly be too expensive for people like us. I may, as a matter of fact, never be able to acquire it. On the other hand, it could eventually become the case that acquiring the power of immortality would cause me to understand the grave disadvantages that it brings.
Thank you so much for reading through to the end; I appreciate it...
