Young Talents And Smell Of Paint
Some time ago I posted about the exhibition I visited this year in June, made of paintings made by 11th grade art students. These exhibitions are different in so many ways, but that doesn't mean they are not as good as any other.
When I entered the gallery, apart from the colorful paintings, the first thing I noticed was the smell of fresh paint. You don't smell paint often as usually the exhibited paintings are not new, but this was different. Most likely these paintings were for their year end exam, so it's understandable.
I love incorporating old paper, old newspaper in art, I'm planning one as we speak and was happy to see it here as well. This painting looked a bit too prismatic, but maybe that was the theme. I suppose they were given a vague theme and that's why you're going to see some similarities.
A still life with just a few colors, but it looks prismatic, just as the previous one.
See what I mean?
You need a little time, to figure out everything as the vivid, changing colors make the paintings a bit confusing, but that doesn't mean it's bad or difficult.
Another still life, just as prismatic, or geometrical as the previous few.
If you were to choose one word to describe these paintings, what would it be? Colorful or geometrical? I personally don't know which one would fit better, or which one would describe these paintings better.
After seeing these paintings, I tend to believe colorful was a requirement. Anyway, here's a different painting, some musical instrument, not the conventional ones though.
One thing I was thinking while writing this post is, how would I react when given such an assignment. They say a good artist should be able to paint or draw everything, but that's not true. Limitation is the death of art and framing talent or imagination is what artists hate.
However, these are art school kids, there's a process of going through different phrases, trying out (almost) everything possible, learning what you can and practicing is what they do.
I don't think i could paint respecting such rules, but then again, I am not an artist and have no talent either, so I'm not in any danger.
Maybe this photo with the five paintings one next to the other can help you see that most likely they had a defined theme to work with.
Things change here, the style changes here. What you see here is three men, who may not mean anything to you, unless you know some Hungarian history. These are not ordinary people, but 3 prominent figures. The top one is a Hungarian noble, ruler. The one on the right is a famous Hungarian poet and revolutionary, who went missing during the revolution in 1848. The third person is (I think) a leading Hungarian military and political figure.
Knowing these personalities, I can tell you, the painting is really good. I love how the painter arranged the three people on the canvas and how they highlighted the faces. Really smart.
This one really surprised me. Look at the two faces. Look at the man's face. I see real talent here. The scene is really good. I love this.
This was a bit of a mystery for me. I can't really figure out what I'm looking at. A woman with a ring in her nose, the light behind her ... Maybe it has some mystical meaning I can't see. You tell me what you see here as I'm pretty much clueless.
I love this, look at the delicate look on the woman's face, which I suppose it's virgin Mary. What I love the best is the colorful background, the mosaic which also covers the woman's right shoulder. Really impressive.
Please note, none of the paintings had a title, so it was basically a guessing game, which I'm not against as it makes it more interesting and also saves you from disappointment, when you look at the title and don't understand what the artist meant, or it's totally different from what you figured out.
The gallery is exhibiting the work of the 11th grade students of the local art school each year, giving them the possibility to show their young talent to the public. I've seen two or three such exhibitions already and can tell you, it's a totally different experience, it's like looking at rough diamond. I love it.
I hope you have a favorite and can appreciate these young talents.

honestly, they are all great pieces, i would never say they are from kids or anyone who's not an adult artist, it's amazing... i really like the geometrical, that's my favorite ones, i would say geometry wins over colors... the second one the best for me
on this one behind i see the tail of a sea monster
My thought exactly. A trained eye can certainly tell, but most can't.
Nice pick as favorite!
And even if you can tell, it doesn't change the fact that they are very good!
Exactly! Well said!
Hello!
There certainly are some nice paintings here.
I haven't studied it, but had seen some other art across the net in the style of the first paintings. I don't know what the art world is calling it, but to me, it looks like a more modern form of cubism. Maybe it's evolution. Just my interpretation though.
Beautiful work for 11th graders or artists of any age. I can't imagine being able to have gone to an art school where art was a big focus along with the other studies. That would surely give a young person a running start into their later art life.
I'm attending each year and the amount of talent you see is amazing. I'm always wondering where these students will be in 10 years, or 20.
I wonder if any of them will choose not to make art their life. I had a cousin who had talent at least by her teens and she did later attend art school, but she married and had children and got involved in other things and to my knowledge, creating art was never in her adult life. I was delivering one of my paintings to her SIL on her husband's side of her family who was going to take it to my cousin when she visited next and she had gone to the same art school and her professor told her that my cousin had great talent, so it wasn't just a family opinion.
That may happen to a lot of people, you love art, but other parts of your life prevail and you don't really do anything with it.
It's sad story as a great talent is lost, but it depends on the individual too. It depends on how strong your desire to create is. Family always takes priority and having kids makes it difficult to find time, but if you don't do it, no one will. Creating art can be therapeutic as well, so it's not just about creating.
Let's hope they can find the strength and motivation to continue.
Whenever I see posts about art fair or exhibition, I read it without further ado. Those works I think are colorful and the way the artists used different colors could have made it appear geometrical. I love staring to paintings because it fills my humanistic approach to everything and art is so humanistic. I have also visited an exhibition in Cebu last week and like your photos, they were also wonderful and sublime to witness. I hope I get to see more posts about exhibition😣 I would love to have a read for it.
I suppose you're right here.
I'm doing my best to post about art, because I know many don't have any possibility to visit art exhibitions.
We’re all just experimenting, trying to figure out who we are and what style fits us best, just like those students with their art. I admire how they’re not afraid to show their work, even if it feels rough or still in progress.
They have to show their work if they want to be famous, there's no other way and I bet this is a huge success for them.
It’s always refreshing to see exhibitions from younger artists because their creativity feels so raw and unfiltered.
The mix of geometry and colors almost feels like they’re experimenting with boundaries, which is what makes it exciting.
My favorite part is that none of the paintings had titles, it really lets the viewer’s imagination do some of the work instead of being boxed into one interpretation.
Thanks for sharing this experience, it almost feels like we got to walk through the gallery with you.😄
Thanks for stopping by, I'm glad you liked it.
You're welcome
It’s amazing to see such raw creativity from young artists! The way you describe their work really brings their passion and talent to life.
It is a rare occasion and a happy case, as unfortunately they don't get many chances at that age. This is a big confidence boost for them, which is much needed at this phase of their career.
So much deep meaning to the arts. Its meaning depends on the eye of beholder. The people in the arts is very well defined.I love to know what every artworks deep meaning.
That is for you to figure out as there was no title attached to the paintings. At the end of the day, it means what you see, I suppose.
That's Interesting.A painting without a title makes the viewers curiosity attacks HAHAHA
They are different paintings and they remind me a lot of cubism. I think geometric fits with the paintings because that is the first thing that strikes me when I see them. But the number of colours does tend to be confusing, and they are essential, so you have to put the image together in your head.
Perhaps I see the geometric aspect more because I practised stereoscopic vision a lot for a while, and it's interesting how when I fix my gaze on these paintings, I see them in 3D. I'm really not crazy, you can see it and it's interesting. But even though I could, I know I could, it would be difficult for me to paint them.
Of this part, this is my favourite, I see violins and I love them!
The second part is wonderful because of the faces, and I see something mystical in that image you mention, or rather the opening of a door to another world. Beautiful painting!
Looks like geometric is the winner here.
Would love to know if they had a theme or some guidance and if yes, what it was. Also, what it would be nice to witness in time is how their style will evolve in time. maybe I'm going to meet them in other exhibitions, who knows.
If I had to do it, I think I would prefer a guide; it would take less time, but it would be interesting to know which one it was. I would love to witness something like that with my own eyes. In the meantime, I am enjoying the wonderful works you brought. Have a great start to the week!🤗
